All Right Now by Free

I encountered this song when someone who asked me to play for his band asked me to learn this song in case i would like to fill in their bass player's spot. Unfortunately, that gig didn't took off but at least i get to discover this great song from the early 70's.

There she stood in the street, smiling from her head to her feet
I said, "A-hey, what is this?"
Now baby maybe, maybe she's in need of a kiss
I said, "A-hey, what's your name, baby?
Maybe we can see things the same
Now don't you wait or hesitate
Let's move before they raise the parking rate"
All right now baby, it's all right now
All right now baby, it's all right now

Let me tell you now

I took her home to my place, watching every move on her face
She said, "Look, what's your game, baby?
Are you tryin' to put me in shame?"
I said, "Slow, don't go so fast
Don't you think that love can last?"
She said, "Love, lord above, now you're gonna trick me in love"
All right now baby, it's all right now
All right now baby, it's all right now
Yeah, it's alright now

Let me tell you all about it now

Took her home to my place, watching every move on her face
She said, "Look, what's your game?
Are you tryin' to put me in shame?"
"Baby", I said, "Slow, slow, don't go so fast
Don't you think that love can last?"
She said, "Love, lord above, now you're gonna trick me in love"
All right now baby, it's all right now
All right now baby, it's all right now
All right now baby, it's all right now (Baby)
All right now baby, it's all right now (Baby, baby, baby, it's all right)
All right now baby (All right now), it's all right now (It's all right, it's all right, it's all right)
All right now baby, it's all right now
All right now baby (We're so happy together), it's all right now (It's all right, it's all right, it's all right, everything is all right)
All right now baby, it's all right now

Sinehan by Soapdish

I just love this song by Soapdish... I guess anyone who has went into a cinema with a girl that they really like should be able to relate. Great songwriting! The album also has a "double feature" for the song with guest vocals from Acel van Ommen, the former vocalist of Moonstar88

Lumang sinehan
Naaalala ko pa ang maduduming upuan
Kasama nga kitang umakyat sa buwan
Naghabulan

Oo nga't kay saya
Kasama nga kita at may pagkaing dala
Sabay patay ng ilaw sa yong mata
Ahhhh

Isip ako ng isip kung paano sasabihin sayo
Mundong nananaginip at pusong litong lito

Mundong nananaginip at pusong litong-lito
Hangggang sa natapos na ang pelikula
Di ko pa din napadama,
Sa ibang lugar na lang sana oh wag na

Queen in Me by Julianne

I listened to this album again yesterday and this song got stuck on my head. It's just a great song. I want to listen to female artists more because of this song. I just think I'm not listening enough to female artists. I've seen her live for a few times and there's this other song that she sang that I'm still looking for, maybe that would go into one of future posts.

Watching you across the room
Hoping you would catch my eye
Don't you know it's to you
I wanna give this smile to

You go to and fro
And it amazes me
How your mere presence here
Awakens something inside of me

Still I keep it to myself
Hesitating
But I can't help but wonder
What all this could bring
Holding on the my seat
As I watch it all begin
Might be falling head over heels
Again

Cause you bring out the queen in me
When your around
Don't wanna be scared of the
Possibility that
Something beautiful
Could be found

Cause I've been waiting for somebody like you
To come my way
And I've been on my knees
Asking if this is all OK

I don't wanna get ahead
Of myself again
Throwing too much in the air
Making sure that He puts
The pieces together
Coz I know I'm being prepared
For the right time

Bulls on Parade by Rage Against The Machine

I didn't know how this blog lasted without an entry from one of my favorite bands during early college era. I was a late RATM adopter, only began appreciating them when Nu Metal was already around (with Battle of Los Angeles album) thus I had to do by best to find the old albums back then. This famously features DJ-style guitar soloing by guitarist Tom Morello. The album features a cool cover too!

Come wit it now!
Come wit it now!

The microphone explodes, shattering the molds
Ya either drop tha hits like de la O or get tha fuck off tha commode
Wit tha sure shot, sure ta make tha bodies drop
Drop an don't copy yo, don't call this a co-opt
Terror rains drenchin', quenchin' tha thirst of tha power dons
That five sided fist-a-gon
Tha rotten sore on tha face of mother earth gets bigger
Tha triggers cold now empty ya purse

they rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells

Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal
I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Linin' to the mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells
Rally round tha family, pockets full of shells

Rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells
They rally round tha family! With a pocket full of shells

Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!
Bulls on parade!

Last Goodbye by Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

I remember that I included this in the mix tape that I gave to someone. The first of the last 2 mix tapes i created and even had the gall to give to the girl. I'm not sure if I already talked about it in this blog, but I honestly believed it was a good set of songs. Kenny Wayne Shepherd was among the first artists that introduced me to the blues. I believe this song should be properly credited to the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band as it's the name that appears on the cover of the album, but it's still the same guy manning the guitars.

(Who who who yeah!)
Long before your rusted chains
Busted walls and barbed wire cage
Tried to hold me down
Time was just a fist of change
Tossed in the water just incase, you ever came around

I could lose myself
I could curse like hell
But I lost the will, to even try
If you ever doubt
Listen to the sound
No lies no no no
This is my last goodbye

Now pardon me if I appear
To see beyond the now and here
To try to save myself
Im not the kind in the plain
But I can't take more of the same
Livin on your shelf

I could lose myself
I could curse like hell
But I lost the will, to even try
If you ever doubt
Listen to the sound
No lies, no no no
This is my last goodbye

Door closes another one opens
I feel the cold wind blowing
Over me
Hey
Long gone but not forgotten
I might be lost, I might be finally free
I am finally free

Long before your rusted chains
Busted walls and barbed wire cage
Tried to hold me down
Time was just a fist of change
Tossed in the water just in case, you ever came around

I could lose myself, I could curse like hell
But I lost the will, to even try
If you ever doubt listen to the sound
No lies, no no no
This is my last goodbye
Yes it is, yes it is

The Take Over, The Breaks Over by Fall Out Boy

iiNot really a big fan of Fall Out Boy... but they really write good and entertaining songs, enough for me to watch them live in one of their gigs here in Manila. This song just came out of my head for some reason, that's why I wrote about it today.

Baby, seasons change but people don't.
And I'm always there waiting in the back room.
I'm boring but over compensate with,
Headlines and flash flash flash photography.

But don't pretend you ever forgot about me.
Don't pretend you ever forgot about me.

Wouldn't you rather be a widow than a divorcee?
Style your wake for fashion magazines.
Widow or a divorcee?
Don't pretend.
Don't pretend.

(We don't fight fair.)
We don't fight fair.

They say your head can be a prison.
Then these are just conjugal visits.
People will dissect us till,
This doesn't mean a thing anymore.

Don't pretend you ever forgot about me.
Don't pretend you ever forgot about me.

Wouldn't you rather be a widow than a divorcee?
Style your wake for fashion magazines. O-o-o-o-o.
Widow or a divorcee?
Don't pretend.
Don't pretend.

We do it in the dark, with smiles on our faces.
We're dropped well concealed in secret places. (Woah.)
We do it in the dark, with smiles on our faces.
We're dropped well concealed in secret places.
We don't fight fair.
(We don't fight fair.)
We don't fight fair.
We don't fight fair.
We don't fight fair.

We do it in the dark, with smiles on our faces.
We're dropped well concealed in secret places. (Woah.)
We do it in the dark, with smiles on our faces.
We're dropped well concealed in secret places.
We don't fight fair.
With smiles on our faces.
We're dropped well concealed in secret places.
We don't fight fair
(Don't pretend you ever forgot about me.)
We don't fight fair.
(Don't pretend you ever forgot about me.)
We don't fight fair.

She's So Uncool by Rivermaya

I don't have the album details in front of me, but since it's Nathan Azarcon who sang this song, it's most likely he's the one who wrote it. I just like the ambience of the song, it's not the usual OPM song that you hear and not your usual Rivermaya song... I see it as one of the hidden gems in their discography.

Now it serves my evil purpose just to see her
Though I know now what she says is untrue
And the things she makes me count, for the record, count me out
"Honey harder baby!" that’s what she screamed

Now she makes me wait beneath the cloud of darkness
Like a lover in despair, I thank you
For the things you made me see all through the madness
You taught me well, forget your wedding bells

Ah, she’s so uncool

She’s the loneliness that hangs beneath your cradle
Though you know that what I say it ain’t true
Well the gift I gave today don’t really matter
It’s the clothes she wears, and the way she swears

Ah, she’s so uncool
Ah, she’s so uncool
Ah, she’s so uncool

Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song) by Incubus

This is probably one of the songs that showed Incubus's potential to expand from their Nu Metal tag. I asked by father to buy the Make Yourself album, it wasn't available but he was able to buy this album instead, which really made me glad as I didn't knew that this album existed by that time. It was Incubus's 1st mainstreamm album and I was happy to own it. Summer Romance is probably one of the easiest songs to like from the album.

I'm home alone tonight.
Full moon illuminates my room, and sends my mind aflight
I think I was dreaming up some thoughts that were seemingly possible...with you.

So I call you on the tin can phone.
We rendezvous at a quarter-two, and make sure we're alone.
I think I've found a way for you and I to finally fly... free.

When we get there, we're gonna fly so far away.
Making sure to laugh; while we experience anti-gravity.

For years, I kept it to myself.
Now potentialities are bound, and living under my shelf.
Simply choose your destination from the diamond canopy, and we'll be there.

So I call you on the tin can phone.
We rendezvous at a quarter-two, and make sure we're alone.
I think I've found the way for you and I to finally be free

When we get there, we're gonna fly so far away.
Making sure to laugh; while we experience anti-gravity.

In Bloom by Nirvana

I was trying to find a song earlier in my MP3 player while I was waiting for them to re-open the cinemas for the 10PM screening, I was looking for the right album to be played randomly and Nevermind was queued so I settled on it. When In Bloom started to play, I instantly knew that tonight I rediscovered the song. The bassline's aggressiveness fitted the song, and Kurt Cobain's guitar solo is just fucking tight.

Sell the kids for food
Weather changes moods
Spring is here again
Reproductive glands

And he's the one who likes
All our pretty songs and he
Likes to sing along and he
Likes to shoot his gun but he
Don't know what it means
He don't know what it means
He don't know what it means
And I say aahh

We can have some more
Nature is a whore
Bruises on the fruit
Tender age in bloom

And he's the one who likes
All our pretty songs and he
Likes to sing along and he
Likes to shoot his gun but he
Don't know what it means
He don't know what it means
He don't know what it means
And I say aahh

The One I Got by Jonny Lang

One of the best things that can happen when you put your MP3 player in random mode is to re-discover a great song you've appreciated before, but you haven't listened to a long time. Such is the case for this song, The One I Got by guitar great Jonny Lang. The Long Time Coming home seems more of a soul album instead of a blues album for Jonny Lang...but it still comes out as a wonderful set

She said hey hello there
As her eyes were dancing all around me
She told me her name sweetly
It felt like I knew her like I never knew someone before
Well I found her now I can stop holding my breath
I tell all my friends over and over again

I said there ain't no woman like the one I got

Yes I know yes I know
I said there ain't no woman like the one I got
Yes I know yes I know

Whatever you need just tell me

And I'll do all I can to please you
Yes I don't mind where you lead me
Cause anywhere you go girl is everywhere I want to be
Oh I never felt so high
It feels real for the very first time

Cause there ain't no woman like the one I got

Yes I know yes I know
I said there ain't no woman like the one I got
Yes I know yes I know

There was a time when my heart was dragging on the floor

And I thank God for the day that I saw your face and you stole my heart away

I lose all my friends

'Cause I ain't got time left for them

Because there ain't no woman like the one I got

Yes I know yes I know
Because there ain't no feeling like the one I got
Yes I know yes I know
There ain't no one like the one I got

Deeper by Hanson

One of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite albums.Michelle Branch does guest vocals! Awesome!!!

She moves like a tender kiss
And I can't stop feeling
She soothes with her tenderness
And I can't stop feeling
I even don't even know her name
But I can't stop feeling
She says that she feels the same
And I can't stop feeling
And if you let me try to tonight
You just might see that I'm

Falling deeper and deeper and deeper in love
And I'm feeling more and more and more and more and more alone

She turns chaos into art
And I can't stop feeling
A touch and I fall apart
And I can't stop feeling
I'm sounding like an old cliche
And I can't stop feeling
I love her in a thousand ways
And I can't stop feeling
But if you let me try tonight you just might see that I'm

Falling deeper and deeper and deeper in love
And I'm feeling more and more and more and more and more alone

Every simple notion is poetry in motion
Can't you see it's pushing me over the edge
This wrecking ball you're holding
Could crush the heart you've stolen
I give you my devotion all over again
And if you let me try tonight you just might see that I'm

Falling deeper and deeper and deeper in love
And I'm feelin' more and more and more and more and more alone

The Scientist by Coldplay

I've just turned into a Coldplay fan since buying and listening to the first 2 albums. I'm a late adapter to their music... I guess I just needed the right kind of experiences and a some change of perspective in life to get this Coldplay thing.

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are.

I had to find you, tell you I need you,
Tell you I set you apart.

Tell me your secrets and ask me your questions,

Oh lets go back to the start.
Running in circles,
Comin' in tails

Heads on a science apart.

Nobody said it was easy, It's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy,
No one ever said it would be this hard.
Oh take me back to the start.

I was just guessin' at numbers and figures, Pulling the puzzles apart.
Questions of science, science and progress

Do not speak as loud as my heart.

And tell me you love me, come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start.
Runnin' in circles, Chasin' tails
Comin' back as we are

Nobody said it was easy, Oh it's such a shame for us to part.
Nobody said it was easy, No one ever said it would be so hard.
I'm goin' back to the start.

Ohhhh oooooo
Ahhhh oooooo
Ohhhh oooooo
Ohhhh oooooo

It's A Wonderful Lie by Paul Westerberg

Just wonderful lyrics from Paul Westerberg. I was just listening to Paul Westerberg on Grooveshark just this week... the lyrics "Wearing too much makeup, Not near enough clothes" caught my attention.

Get up from a dream
And I look for rain
Take an amphetamine
And a crushed rats brain
How am I feelin'
Better I suppose
How am I lookin'
I don't want the truth
What am I doin'
I ain't in my youth
I'm past my prime
Or was that just a pose
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those

Ive been accused of never opening up
You get too close
Then I keep my mouth shut
I'm gonna run to the wind
Where the big bad city blows
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those

You can dress to the eights
You can dress to maim
Itll make you feel great
This fortune and fame
Wearing too much makeup
Not near enough clothes
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those

So don't pin your hopes
Or pin your dreams
To misanthropes or guys like me
The truth is overrated
I suppose
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by...

Half of My Heart by John Mayer

I can't remember why I just started to sing the chorus of this song last week in the office in front of some of my officemates. I didn't even know the lyrics. It was just fun to sing it I guess. Taylor Swift contributes subtle background vocals in the chorus of the song.

I was born in the arms of imaginary friends
Free to roam, made a home out of everywhere I've been
Then you come crashing in, like the realest thing
Trying my best to understand all that your love can bring

Oh half of my heart's got a grip on the situation
Half of my heart takes time
Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you
That I can't keep loving you
Oh, with half of my heart

I was made to believe i'd never love somebody else
I made a plan, stay the man who can only love himself
Lonely was the song I sang, 'til the day you came
Showing me a better way and all that my love can bring

Oh half of my heart's got a grip on the situation
Half of my heart takes time
Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you
That I can't keep loving you
Oh, with half of my heart
With half of my heart

Your faith is strong
But I can only fall short for so long
Time will hold, later on
You will hate that I never gave more to you than half of my heart
But I can't stop loving you
But I can't stop loving you
But I can't stop loving you with half of my...

Half of my heart
Half of my heart

Half of my heart's got a real good imagination
Half of my heart's got you
Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you
That half of my heart won't do

Half of my heart is a shotgun wedding to a bride with a paper ring
And half of my heart is the part of a man who's never really loved anything

Half of my heart
Half of my heart
Half of my heart
Half of my heart
Half of my heart
Half of my heart

Shooting Star by Teeth

This is probably my favorite Teeth song aside from Prinsesa. It came with this weird but cool music video, wherein someone tries to get inside this vault which happened to be in the middle of a deserted remote highway. Too bad i wasn't able to see this band perform live, though the band performed with Ebe Dancel substituting for Glenn Jacinto.

Are you happy you’re a shooting star
Able to observe so many wishes that we make
Are you happy you’re a shooting star
Able to give wonder to a galaxy of eternal mystery

Inside my mind
I’m waiting for you
Inside my mind
I’m searching and waiting for you

And maybe I’m lucky to have seen you tonight
Coz I needed something I have always dreamed about
It doesn’t matter if I can go through
I just want my eye inside this tunnel to heaven

And I wish

High and low, find some snow
I need to know from you
Lying low, I have to grow
I need to know from you

Shooting star

Mayonaise by the Smashing Pumpkins

I was on the way to work commuting on a bus when this song played on my MP3 player... I finally appreciated this album and particularly this song. Awesome guitar work and feel. Good stuff from Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Cool enough to almost be it
Cool enough to not quite see it
Doomed
Pick your pockets full of sorrow
And run away with me tomorrow
June

We'll try and ease the pain
But somehow we'll feel the same
Well, no one knows
Where our secrets go

I send a heart to all my dearies
When your life is so, so dreary
Dream
I'm rumored to the straight and narrow
While the harlots of my perils
Scream

And I fail
But when I can, I will
Try to understand
That when I can, I will

Mother weep the years I'm missing
All our time can't be given
Back
Shut my mouth and strike the demons
That cursed you and your reasons
Out of hand and out of season
Out of love and out of feeling
So bad

When I can, I will
Words defy the plan
When I can, I will

Fool enough to almost be it
And cool enough to not quite see it
And old enough to always feel this
Always old, I'll always feel this

No more promise no more sorrow
No longer will I follow
Can anybody hear me
I just want to be me
When I can, I will
Try to understand
That when I can, I will

The Fixer by Pearl Jam

Just took a listen to Pearl Jam's latest album, Backspacer. I believe The Fixer is one of the first singles out of this album. Classic Pearl Jam grit and feel! Great music and overall songwriting from this guys, will let you singing "fight to get it back again!!"

Yeah, hey, hey
When somethings dark, let me shed a little light on it
When somethings cold, let me put a little fire on it
If somethings old, I wanna put a bit of shine on it
When somethings gone, I wanna fight to get it back again

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fight to get it back again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

When somethings broke, I wanna put a bit of fixin' on it
When somethings bored, I wanna put a little exciting on it
If somethings low, I wanna put a little high on it
When somethings lost, I wanna fight to get it back again

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fight to get it back again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

When signals cross, I wanna put a little straight on it
If there's no love, I wanna try to love again

I'll say your prayers, I'll take your side
I'll find us a way to make light
I'll dig your grave, we'll dance and sing
What's saved could be one last lifetime

Hey, hey, hey
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, fight to get it back again
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
fight to get it back again, yeah, yeah, yeah
fight to get it back again, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Afternoon by Pat Metheny Group

Do yourself a favor, in case you get to read this, find a copy of this song. Download it, borrow a friends CD... do what it takes. It'll be worth it! I put my MP3 player on "Rarely Listened To" mode and found this musical gem. This capped off a good day!

The lyrics seems to be gibberish... so just listen to it and enjoy!
