Looking' Out Forever by Paul Westerberg

Paul Westerberg is one of my favorite song writers. I just like how he catches a feeling and translates it to a song that I can relate to. This one especially. There's just a ball of energy that waits to be released.

The one who loves you most
Is giving up the ghost
And taking to the stage
Like a stone on a grave
Yeah I think of her
Every once in awhile
Every once in awhile
Forever
I'm lookin' out forever now
I love you now forever now
I love you now forever now yeah
I'm lookin' out forever now
I'm lookin' out forever now
I'm lookin' out forever now yeah
I love you now forever now
I love you now forever now
I love you now forever now yeah
I'm lookin' out forever now
I love you now forever now yeah

Ain't nothing else I can say
Nothin' left to give her
Abandon the wind
I'm a bend in the river
Standing by the bank
They're calling me across
Think of me sometimes
When the river flows because
I'm lookin' out forever now
I love you now forever now
I love you now forever now yeah
God I know I'm going home
God I don't belong
Taste me in his kisses
Waste me in my prime
Replace me with another
Think of me some time

It's A Wonderful Lie by Paul Westerberg

Just wonderful lyrics from Paul Westerberg. I was just listening to Paul Westerberg on Grooveshark just this week... the lyrics "Wearing too much makeup, Not near enough clothes" caught my attention.

Get up from a dream
And I look for rain
Take an amphetamine
And a crushed rats brain
How am I feelin'
Better I suppose
How am I lookin'
I don't want the truth
What am I doin'
I ain't in my youth
I'm past my prime
Or was that just a pose
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those

Ive been accused of never opening up
You get too close
Then I keep my mouth shut
I'm gonna run to the wind
Where the big bad city blows
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those

You can dress to the eights
You can dress to maim
Itll make you feel great
This fortune and fame
Wearing too much makeup
Not near enough clothes
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those

So don't pin your hopes
Or pin your dreams
To misanthropes or guys like me
The truth is overrated
I suppose
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by on those
It a wonderful lie
And I still get by...

Love Untold by Paul Westerberg

I just love simply melody songs such as ones that are written by Paul Westerberg. I just wish that someday, I'll be able to write simple, heartfelt songs.

They were gonna meet
On a rocky mountain street
Two bashful hearts beat in advance

Their hands were gonna sweat
It was all set
She ain't showed up yet
Still a good chance

It's a love untold
It's a love untold

Checking on her face
Checks his sleeve for his ace
And both just in case wear clean underwear

Games would be played
Excuses would be made
The stupid things they said
In their prayers

Oh about a love untold
It's a love untold

Soft hands slowly move across the blank white page
Thinking of words for my silent lips and fingers to obey

Oh about a love untold
It's a love untold

They were gonna meet on a crummy little street
It never came to be I'm told
Does anyone recall the saddest love of all
The one that lets you fall nothing to hold
It's the love untold...
Once upon a love untold
Just another love untold

They were gonna meet on a crummy little street

Lookin' Up in Heaven by Paul Westerberg

I just bought this Paul Westerberg album, Folker, and absolutely loved this song.

Westerberg just writes the lyrics that hits you on the spot. Melodies are simple yet lovely.

Someday morning I felt afraid
Someone leaving in the world today
I looked low, I looked high

Only missed one friend

Before I go, I look high again

So I went lookin' up in heaven

But you wasn't anywhere in sight

They asked me to stick around

But without you it just wasn't right

I went lookin' up in heaven

But you wasn't anywhere in sight

Sunday evening I get the blues

Someone sleeping' in their tennis shoes

I looked low and I looked high

Only missed one friend

Before I go, I look high again

So I went lookin' up in heaven

But you wasn't anywhere in sight

They asked me to stick around

But without you it just wasn't right

I went lookin' up in heaven

But you wasn't anywhere in sight

I met a little angel, she asked me if I could step outside

"I'll make you forget her, I'll make you forget her

Baby, won't you watch me fly?"

Years go by now, now I have grown

Sunday night and I ain't alone

So you look low and I look high

And miss another friend

Before I go, I look high again

(I love you)

Lookin' up in heaven

But you wasn't anywhere in sight

They asked me to stick around

But without you it just wasn't right

So I went lookin' up in heaven

But you wasn't anywhere in sight

They invited me to stick around, you know

But I told 'em there was another place
I had to check out tonight

I went lookin' up in heaven
But you wasn't anywhere in sight

Love You in The Fall by Paul Westerberg

I have to admit that I don't have an extensive knowledge of Paul Westerberg's work, especially during his days as the figure head of the Replacements, a band which was said to be, at one time "the best" in the whole world (against the likes of U2, Guns N' Roses and R.E.M.). I only became familiar with him with the "Dyslexic Heart" song which was featured in the Cameron Crowe movie "Singles" and extensively used in the local teenage TV show T.G.I.S.

I came across this single while doing sometime off from standby work duties on a Sunday. It was one of the singles included in the free CD the Paste magazine comes with. Westerberg collaborated with co-Replacements and now GN'R member Tommy Stinson. The song comes off as very raw, energetic and emotional.

It also reflects what i feel right now...

I love you in the fall
I'll never forget you at all
I love you in the fall
I'll never forget you at all

I'll wait for always

Love you in the fall
Never forget you
The winter's coming on

Seasons change before me
Before me there must have been someone else
Oh yes

I'll wait for always

Love you in the fall
I'll love you forever

Seasons change before me
After me there'll be someone new, someone new
(and) when the shadows turn blue
(shadows of the summertime)

When the crimson leaves appear
It's only days 'til autumn's here

Love you forever, oh-oh
I'll love you in the fall
I'll love you forever, oh-oh
I'll love you in the fall
I'll love you forever, oh-oh
I'll love you in the fall
I'll never forget you, mmm
I'll never forget you
I'll never forget you
I'll never forget you
I'll never forget you
No no, I'll never forget you ...
