Talk Tonight by Oasis

I used to believe that Oasis was the biggest band in the world. This is during the late 90's as far as I remember. I knew the song titles, I knew the lyrics.

This song comes out of The Masterplan, a collection of Oasis B-sides...most of which were worthy enough to be released as A-sides. The song was the B-side to Some Might Say.

Sittin' on my own
Chewin' on a bone
A thousand million
Miles from home
When Something hit me
Somewhere right between the eyes

Sleepin' on a plane
You know you can't complain
You took your last chance
Once again
I landed, stranded
Hardly even knew your name

I wanna talk tonight
Until the mornin' light
'Bout how you saved my life
You and me see how we are
You and me see how we are

All your dreams are made
Of Strawberry lemonade
And you make sure
I eat today
You take me walking
To where you played
When you were young

I'll never say that I
Won't ever make you cry
And this I'll say
I don't know why
I know I'm leavin'
But I'll be back another day

I wanna talk tonight
Until the mornin' light
'Bout how you saved my life
(You saved my life)
I wanna talk tonight
(I wanna talk tonight)
'Bout how you saved my life
(I wanna talk tonight)
'Bout how you saved my life
(I wanna talk tonight)
'Bout how you saved my life
(I wanna talk tonight)
'Bout how you saved my life

I wanna talk tonight

How's It Going to Be by Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind's first album is a late 90's classic. I honestly believe that they made this mark with the self-titled debut. I wish that level of strength was carried to later albums. This song features a strong bass-line and great vocal performance form Stephan Jenkins.

I'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore
Before you take a swing
I wonder what are we fighting for
When I say out loud
I want to get out of this
I wonder is there anything
I'm going to miss
I wonder how it's going to be
When you don't know me
How's it going to be
When you're sure I'm not there
How's it going to be
When there's no one there to talk to
Between you and me
Cause I don't care
How's it going to be
How's it going to be
Where we used to laugh
There's a shouting match
Sharp as a thumbnail scratch
A silence I can't ignore
Like the hammock by the
Doorway we spent time in swings empty
Don't see lightning like last fall
When it was always about to hit me
I wonder how's it going to be
When it goes down
How's it going to be
When you're not around
How's it going to be
When you found out there was nothing
Between you and me
Cause I don't care
How's it going to be
And how's it going to be
When you don't know me anymore
And how's it going to be
Want to get myself back in again
The soft dive of oblivion
I want to taste the salt of your skin
The soft dive of oblivion oblivion
How's it going to be
When you don't know me anymore
How's it going to be
How's it going to be
How's it going to be

Esem by Yano

I listened to Yano's self-titled album today, which probably is one of the better works from the early 90's for OPM bands. I was still in elementary when this record was released, too young to realize what were some of the songs really about.

Patingin-tingin, di naman makabili
Patingin-tingin, di makapanood ng sine

Walang ibang pera, kundi pamasahe

Nakayanan ko lang, pambili ng dalawang yosi

Paamoy-amoy, di naman makakain

Busog na sa tubig
Gutom ay lilipas din
Patuloy ang laboy
Walang iisipin
Kailangang magsaya, kailangang magpahangin

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay

Gumagabi na
Ako'y uuwi na

Tapos na ang saya
Balik sa problema
At bukas ng umaga
Uulitin ko pa ba
Ang kahibangang ito

Sa tingin ko hindi na

Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay

Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainip ang ganitong buhay
Nakakainis ang ganitong buhay

Nakakabaliw ang ganitong buhay
Di nakakaaliw ang ganitong buhay
Nakakabaliw ang ganitong buhay
Di nakakaaliw ang ganitong buhay
No... no no no

'Di Na Bale by Soapdish

This song pretty much sums up May 2010 and early part of June 2010 for me. I found out that I really didn't had a chance to win this girl's heart. Maybe I just had the wrong expectations. Buti na lang merong Soapdish. Probably in terms of Tagalog songs, Soapdish ranks with Eraserheads and Rivermaya, at least for me, in writing great memorable songs that I can relate to.

Gusto ko sanang sumama
Pero parang ayaw mo
Kanina ka pa di kumikibo
Gusto ko lang naman kasi
Makasama ka parang dati
Na tayong dalawa yung magkatabi

Ilang beses kong sinabi
Na nagsisi na ako
Pero parang lalong gumugulo
Naiinis ka na yata
Eh anong magagawa

Ayokong nakikita, may kasama kang lalaki
Umiinom sa tabi-tabi
Ako'y nahihirapan at ako'y nasasaktan
Baka pwde pang pagusapan

You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift

A great pop song for the masses song by an irresistible pretty girl. This song probably sports one of the most memorable music videos of all-time of the 2000's. The plot has been told in several teen movies, just look for it in youtube or your TV.

You're on the phone with your girlfriend, She's upset
She's going off about something that you said
She doesn't get your humour like I do

I'm in the room, its a typical Tuesday night
I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like
And she'll never know your story like I do

But she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming bout the day when you wake up and find
That what you're lookin' for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Walkin' the streets with you in your worn out jeans
I cant help thinking this is how it ought to be
Laughing on the park bench thinkin' to myself
Hey isn't this easy?

And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town
I haven't seen it in awhile, since she brought you down
You say you find I know you better than that
Hey, Whatcha doing with a girl like that?

She wears high heels, I wear sneakers
She's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers
Dreaming bout the day when you wake up and find
That what you're looking for has been here the whole time

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me

Standin' by, waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know that?
You belong with me
You belong with me

Oh I remember you driving to my house in the middle of the night
I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're about to cry
I know your favorite songs and you tell me about your dreams
I think I know where you belong. I think I know it's with me.

Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you?
Been here all along so why can't you see?
You belong with me

Standing by or waiting at your back door
All this time how could you not know that
You belong with me
You belong with me

Have you ever thought just maybe
You belong with me
You belong with me

Girl Be Mine By Francis Magalona

Girl Be Mine, along with Kaleidoscope World, is probably two of the best English songs that Francis M has ever written and captures what would probably be Francis M's creative peak. . The lyrics are just clever and the fact that he doesn't even rap rather sings in this song makes it even special. Every time I hear this song, it's just inspirational and wants me to just run!

Let the sun shine
Let the rivers run away
Cause its a beautiful day now
To play now
As i close my eyes and pray
Lord have mercy on me
Cause I'm feeling kinda lonely
Would you be,
Could you be
My one and only

Took a train at a station
And almost lost my patience cause I was waiting
Damned rain delayed the train
Now I'm waitin' in vain
Just to see your face
Is this the one that I'm supposed to be afraid of?
Is this the one that I'm supposed to be ashamed of?
Hard as a rock not soft like play-do
Everytime I hear a song playing on the radio

Let the wind blow
Let the wind touch my face
I wanna take a little break now
Shake now
Cause, this is what i have to say
I feel so fine
So fine that it blows my mind
Tell the truth
When will you be mine?

And in my dream you are so real, so it seems
Inside my head a giant screen plays every scene
While I Scream I feel you every time I go to sleep
Wake up in the middle of the night and I weep
Gotta be mine
That girl is so fine
Girl be mine
Girl be mine
All it takes is a matter of time

And in my dream you are so real or so it seems
Inside my head a giant screen plays every scene
So you see I feel you every time I go to sleep
All it takes is a matter of time
Tell the truth
When you'll be mine

Sun shine
Let the rivers run away
Cause its a beautiful day now
To play now
As i close my eyes and pray
Lord have mercy on me
You know I'm feeling kinda lonely
could you be
would you be

Let the wind blow
Let the wind touch my face
I wanna take a little break now
Shake now
This is what I have to say
I feel so fine
So fine the it blows my mind
Tell the truth
When will you be mine

Let the sun shine
Let the rivers run away
Cause it's a beautiful day now
To play now
And as i close my eyes and pray
Lord have mercy on me
You know I'm feeling kinda lonely
Could you be
Would you be
Could you be
Would you be
Could you be
Would you be
Be mine

Ang Ating Araw by Dicta License

How do you spell RATM in tagalog? Dicta License. They follow the same template, using militant lyrics sung in rap, with hard edge riffs and tight grooves minus Tom Morello's DJ'ing on a guitar. The songs are actually good.

Sisikat nang muli ang ating araw
Sa nayong may himig ng hanging
Hinipan ng banal
Tulad ng awit na pumipiglas sa
Kahon ng kundiman

Madalas ay reklamo lang
Ang bukang bibig
At di makita ang sakit na
Iyong pasan
Mas matalas ang dila kung
Mayroong galaw ng bisig
Paliparin ang malayang isip

Sisikat nang muli ang ating araw
Sa nayong may himig ng hanging
Hinipan ng banal
Tulad ng awit na pumipiglas sa
Kahon ng kundiman

Dinggin mo ang taway ng
Lupang pinagmulan
Nang kayamanan na di mo rin
Pala natitikman... natitikman... yeah
Kelan malilinis ang bahid ng dumi
(Hindi malaman) may'rong pag-asa ating inaasam

Sisikat nang muli ang ating araw
Sa layong may himig ng hanging
Hinipan ng banal
Tulad ng awit na pumipiglas sa
Kahon ng kundiman

C'mon now...

Ahh... here we go... ahh

Walang pamagat alay kong alamat (alay kong alamat)
Hindi makakahon damdamin kong naisulat

Di mo ba naririnig, ang tinig ng lahat
Sabay-sabay, lumiliyab
Sisikat nang muli

Sisikat nang muli ang ating araw
Sa nayong may himig ng hanging
Hinipan ng banal
Tulad ng awit na pumipiglas sa
Kahon ng kundiman

Yeaahh...

Sisikat na muli...
Sisikat na muli...
Sisikat na muli...

Hemorrhage (In My Hands) by Fuel

Fuel was one of my favorite non-Nu Metal bands during college. I became a fan primarily because of this song, Hemorrhage. I saw it for a couple of times in Channel V and immediately looked for the Something Like Human album. I also looked for their first album, but I haven't been lucky so far.

Memories are just where you laid them
Drag the waters till the depths give up their dead
What did you expect to find?
Was there something you left behind?
Don't you remember anything i said when i said

Don't fall away
And leave me to myself
Don't fall away
And leave love bleeding in my hands
In my hands again
And leave love bleeding in my hands
In my hands
Love lies bleeding

Hold me now I feel contagious
Am I the only place that you've left to go
She cries her life is like
Some movie black and white
Dead actors faking lines
Over and over and over again she cries

Don't fall away
And leave me to myself
Don't fall away
And leave love bleeding in my hands
In my hands again
And leave love bleeding in my hands
In my hands
Love lies bleeding

And I wanted
You turned away
You don't remember
But i do
You never even tried

Don't fall away...
