Patience by Guns N' Roses

Wow! This blog has been running for more about 4 years and I haven't written something about the guns who ruled the early 90's with their brand of rock and roll... Guns N' fuckin' Roses.

Me and my brothers started off with the Use Your Illusion albums and gradually gravitated to the older albums... Appetite for Destruction and GNR Lies. GNR Lies seemed to be a sucky album with me listening only to one side of the album as I found the other side not too appealing for my youthful and ignorant taste. (Little did I know that the other side I was not listening to was a copy of the GNR original EP "
Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide".

The song starts of with the infamous whistle which every kid listening to Guns N' Roses had to learn at that time.

(1..2...1,2,3,4)
Shed a tear 'cause I'm missing you
I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt you're in my heart now
Said woman take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said sugar make it slow
And we'll come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
(inhale) Patience...
Ooh, oh, yeah

Sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now, I'll wait dear
Sometimes, I get so tense
But I can't speed up the time
But you know, love, there's one more thing to consider
Said woman take it slow
Things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said sugar take the time
'Cause the lights are shining bright
You and I've got what it takes to make it
We won't fake it, Oh never break it
'Cause I can't take it

...little patience, mm yeah, ooh yeah,
Need a little patience, yeah
Just a little patience, yeah
Some more pati... (ence, yeah)
I've been walking these streets at night
Just trying to get it right (Need some patience, yeah)
It's hard to see with so many around
You know I don't like being stuck in a crowd (Could use some patience, yeah)
And the streets don't change but maybe the name
I ain't got time for the game
'Cause I need you (Patience, yeah)
Yeah, yeah well I need you
Oh, I need you (Take some patience)
Whoa, I need you (Just a little patience is all we need)
Ooh, this ti- me....

Shattered Like by Rivermaya

Being a big fan of Rivermaya I have a lot of favorite songs from the band. This probably cracks the top 10 Rivermaya songs for me. The song's structure seems simple and I just like the overall message... again a disappointment in love life.

I distinctly remember this songs video, which was a collage of videos from Rivermaya's tour abroad. They also performed a danceable version of this song for their Araneta concert with Kitchie Nadal, which ranks among the best concerts I've attended.

You're the night in my days,
that I fight to keep from coming
you're the life when I pray, that I feel.

I tried to tame you,
I tried to open your mind.
I tried to save you,
you said it's just a waste of time
'cause you are meant to explode one day
'cause you are built that way,
yeah you are built that way.

I delight in my pain,
and I'm shattered like your promises
though I tried to be sane,
I'm just shattered like,
shattered like your promises.

Had you been drinking?
had you been messing up your life
like you did mine, not long ago.

That's good for ego,
that's good for motherfucking ego
like I need it.
Still, while the record company waits
until our song I say tough luck

But i'm too crazy and
i'm too weak and I'm too busy
remembering how to smile
and how to be happy.

I delight in my pain
and I'm shattered like your promises
though I tried to be sane,
I'm just shattered like,
shattered like.

I'm just shattered, shattered, shattered...

December 2 Ch VII by Taken By Cars

This song is what i would call an "on-switch", it just turns the mood up! Awesome guitar riffs that would make you forget about problems... it just takes you to places.

Kudos to the band for delivering this awesome song.

A sinking call
An out of sight hello
From a thousand wailing walls
It's like you
It's like you never left at all

I throw your word around like child's play
Listen to what I say
I throw your words around like child's play
New blues for a new day

And when I'm gone
I want you to wonder
And when I stop
I want you to play

And let the best of you just see right through me
Cause I can't see

But I wasn't where you were
No I'm never where you are
I'm in my looking glass view
Always almost too close to you
I'm always almost too close to you

Ray of Light by Madonna

This is probably my favorite 90's Madonna song, why? Because aside from being a good song... I distinctly remember listening to thisn song while sitting at a backseat of a car with the sun on my face on the way home from a beach somewhere in the north. I actually felt I was kidnapped because the plan was not shared with me and my brothers... we just became aware a few hours before we would travel. But what the heck it was fun!!

To add: this was performed on MTV VMA's with Fuckin' Lenny Kravitz and his big hairdo on guitars.

Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone

And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Faster than the speeding light she's flying
Trying to remember where it all began
She's got herself a little piece of heaven
Waiting for the time when Earth shall be as one

And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light
Quicker than a ray of light
Quicker than a ray of light

Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone

And I feel
Quicker than a ray of light
Then gone for
Someone else shall be there
Through the endless years

She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe

And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light she's flying
Quicker than a ray of light I'm flying

Hatak by The Dawn

I was trying to choose which song from The Dawn's Sound the Alarm I was going to write about and choose this one over As I Do and Pedestal. I'm a recent The Dawn fan and I would say that this song falls in the company of classic songs from the band.

The album and the song features new guitarist Kenneth Ilagan, who replaced the classic Francis Reyes for lead guitar duties.

Hinihintay ang sikat ng araw
sa pusong madilim
upang makita ang sarili
ligaw at dumaraing

San ba ako huling lumiko
di ko na matandaan
marami nang binuhos ang mundo
isa isa lang mahina ang kalaban
mahina ang kalaban

May kaunting panahon ka pa
para ako ay sagipin
hatak lang ang kailangan ko
ayokong mahulog sa bangin

Kung ika'y aking nasaktan
ako sanay' patawarin
Tao lang, tao lang kaibigan
ang langit ay hanap pa din

San ba ako huling lumiko
di ko na matandaan
marami nang binuhos ang mundo
isa isa lang mahina ang kalaban
mahina ang kalaban

May kaunting panahon ka pa
para ako ay sagipin
hatak lang ang kailangan ko
ayokong mahulog sa bangin

Tignan mo ako ng may pagmamahal
yan lamang aking hiling sa iyo

Isa isa lang..
Isa isa lang..
Isa isa lang..
ang paghakbang

May kaunting panahon ka pa
para ako ay sagipin
hatak lang ang kailangan ko
ayokong mahulog sa bangin

What Light by Wilco

I'm not really familiar with Wilco as a band, but I've heard that they're quite good.

I don't own a copy of the Sky Blue Sky album, but I was able to get a copy of this song by way of Relix Magazine (see www.relix.com), which had a free CD that came along. I love the acoustic feel and the vibe in the song. Simple yet sweet.

This song made me a fan of Wilco

If you feel like singing a song
And you want other people to sing along
Just sing what you feel
Don't let anyone say it's wrong

And if you're trying to paint a picture
But you're not sure which colors belong
Just paint what you see
Don't let anyone say it's wrong

And if you're strung out like a kite
Or stung awake in the night
It's alright to be frightened

When there's a light (what light)
There's a light (one light)
There's a light (white light)
Inside of you

If you think you might need somebody
To pick you up when you drag
Don't loose sight of yourself
Don't let anyone change your bag

And if the whole world's singing your songs
And all of your paintings have been hung
Just remember what was yours is everyone's from now on

And that's not wrong or right
But you can struggle with it all you like
You'll only get uptight

Because there's a light (what light)
There's a light (one light)
There's a light (white light)
...
Inside of you

Bochog by Rivermaya

I'm honestly hardpressed in choosing which Rivermaya songs to write about. I enjoy them alot, even with the transitions of members of the band.

I choose Bochog, because somehow without listening to it for months, it popped in my head yesterday. It has a melancholic feel to it... and another unrequited love song for the books. I got a feeling that Kakoy Legaspi had a lot of influence with the direction of the Rivermaya sound for this album with a lot of great guitar parts. I'm not sure who copped the guitar solo for this song, but DAMN!, that's how I would like my guitar playing to sound.

tuloy-tuloy kitang pinagmasdan kinaumagahan
