Say Forever by Rico Blanco

I first listened to this song almost a year ago, on the way to Rico Blanco's Your Universe launching in Gateway Mall in Cubao. I've feared listening to album (in most cases, i hate listening to an album for the first time, specially if i haven't heard any singles from it yet).

I remember sitting in the FX and popping out my mp3 player to preview what would be Rico Blanco's debut album as a solo arist offering for me. Lo and behold, what i heard was not a usual rock song.

It's highly evident that the song was heavily influenced by the 80's. The artist's incorporation of synths for the album was something i was expecting and hoping. Also features some sweet basslines (
which i tried to learn last saturday) and vocal harmonies (especially the ones that take place in the chorus).

Plain awesome!!

I'm at the central station
Without a destination baby its true, its true.
A million miles from nowhere
Tryin to get to somewhere baby with you, with you.

Let's go outside stand by my side, say forever
You'll always be the one for me, say forever
I'm always there the one who cares, say forever

Doin' a hundred ninety
The autobahn she loves me more than you do. if you do.
Big city life conundrum
Trying to keep myself from fallin for you, for you.

Let's go outside stand by my side, say forever
You'll always be the one for me, say forever
I'm always there the one who cares, say forever

I'm in my final verse and
The situations worse i dunno what to do, do you?
From marrakesh to hong kong
The only thing i want from this world is you, and its true

Let's go outside stand by my side, say forever
You'll always be the one for me, say forever
I'm always there the one who cares, say forever

Come Down by Bush

I initially saw the video for this song in MTV, but found was not initially interested about it. That's until I heard the acoustic version of the song that came a part of the Kosovo Benefit album, No Boundaries.

I just love the acoustic version's simplicity. I guess the emotions shine through more with the stripped down version. Sting accompaniment doesn't hurt as well. This song is the primary reason why I coveted the Sixteen Stone album, which i searched for for years.

love and hate, get it wrong
she cut me right back down to size
sleep the day, let it fade
who was there to take your place

no one knows, never will
mostly me but mostly you
what do you say, do you do
when it all comes down

cause i don't want to come back down from this cloud
it's taken me all this time to find out what i need yeah
i don't want to come back down from this cloud
it's taken me all this all this time

there is no blame, only shame
when you beg you just complain
the more i come, the more i try
all police are paranoid

so am i, so's the future
so are you, be a creature
what do you say, do you do
when it all comes down

cause i don't want to come back down from this cloud
it's taken me all this time to find out what i need yeah yeah yeah

i don't want to come back down from this cloud
it's taken me all this all this time

shoot up, shoot up, shoot up you're high

love and hate, get it wrong
she cut me right down to size
sleep the day, let it fade
who was there to take your place

no one knows, never will
mostly me but mostly you
what do you say, do you do
when it all comes down

cause i don't want to come back down from this cloud
it's taken me all this time to find out what i need yeah yeah yeah

i don't want to come back down from this cloud
it's taken me all this all this time
why did you come down
i don't want to come back down from this cloud

Goodbye by Juana

I was able to catch this OPM song via MTV. One of the better love songs I was able to related to for a long while, that's why I grabbed a copy as soon as I saw one that was on a bargain.

Didn't mean to hurt you badly
Don't think that I am fooling around with you
So sorry for the time you've wasted on me
So sorry for the things that you went through
But I know that the problem's within me
You're so nice but your love don't deserve me
Or maybe I'm just so scared to fall in love again

I can still remember the days
So many times I've been hurt
So much trust I put on a relationship
So much suffering I got and the pain still remain
You know I like you but I don't wanna take the risk
So confused and I don't know how to deal with it
Need some time for awhile before I give my heart away

Don't say goodbye
Don't say goodbye
I need some time for awhile before I give my heart away

Don't say goodbye
Don't say goodbye
I need some time for awhile before I give my heart away

Now I know I wasn't thinking before
That's why I'm always ending up with Mr. Wrong
Learning from the past, don't wanna make a mistake
You could be Mr. Right or could be a fake
You know I like you but I don't wanna take the risk
So confused and I don't know how to deal with it
Need some time for awhile before I give my heart away

Woman in Chains by Tears for Fears

I was reminded of this song while I was listening to Joe Satriani's Rubina (from the Not of This Earth Album). They were utterly similar (at least to me). I just find this Tears for Fears song very powerful and moving, especially with the female second vocals (just checked and her name is Oleta Adams). Damn! This is heavier than those metal songs.

You better love loving and you better behave
You better love loving and you better behave
Woman in chains, woman in chains

Calls her man the great white hope
Says she's fine, she'll always cope, ooh
Woman in chains, woman in chains

Well, I feel lying and waiting is a poor man's deal (A poor man's deal)
And I feel hopelessly weighed down by your eyes of steel
(Your eyes of steel)
Well, It's a world gone crazy keeps woman in chains, woh woh woh
Woman in chains, woman in chains

Trades her soul as skin and bones
(You better love loving and you better behave)
Sells the only thing she owns
(You better love loving and you better behave) ooh ooh
Woman in chains (the sun and the moon), woman in chains

Men of stone, men of stone, hey baby, no no no, ooh

Well, I feel deep in your heart there are wounds time can't heal
(The time can't heal)
And I feel somebody somewhere is trying to breathe
Well, you know what I mean
It's a world gone crazy keeps woman in chains

It's under my skin but out of my hands
I'll tear it apart (somebody somewhere is trying)
But I won't understand (to breathe)
I will not accept the greatness of man
It's a world gone crazy keeps woman in chains
Gone crazy keeps woman in chains

So free her, so free her, so free her
So free her, so free her (the sun and the moon)
So free (the wind and the rain) her, so free her
So free her, so free her, so free her, so free her
So free her, so free her (the sun and the moon)
So free (the wind and the rain) her, so free her

Let's Go Down to the Town Oasis by Papas Fritas

I'm not a big fan of Papas Fritas. I don't know much about them, except for hearing them on some magazines and online articles. I bought the "Pop Has Freed Us" album on a CD sale, thinking that it was a low risk buy. The song "Let's Go Down to the Town Oasis" is just pure pleasure. I tried to listen to the album on a bad day and this song instantly perked me up. I like the vibe, instrumentation and the vocal harmonies.

Let's go down to the town oasis
Meet you there at half past five
I'll bring cards, my hearts and aces
You bring yours and I'll bring mine

While we're there we'll catch a picture
Rest our feet and free our minds
Meet some friends we've known forever
Drink to me cause I'm not buying

Tell a tale drink an ale
A bottle of white wine
Tell a tale drink an ale
We all got the time

Here's our friend old Captain Kenny
Serves your drink with a crooked smile
Here's to him and here's to whiskey
Served straight up or in your eye

Why wait for rain when the sun's in the sky
Why look for pain in a smile

I don't think I'll be there tonight
Drink to me another time

Tell a tale drink an ale
A bottle of white wine
Tell a tale drink an ale
We all got the time
All we got is time
