Perpekto by Dong Abay

Dong Abay (Yano) did some good work on this song. And to think about it that Raimund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala did the rhythm section work for this album, makes the Filipino album, a sort-of OPM super group

I just love Dong Abay's lyrics. Touching, simple and straightforward.

Minsan nabubulagan
Mata ay nakapiring
Daan ay kadiliman

Ikaw ay nadadapa
Napipilayan din
Di makapagsalita
Anung ibig sabihin?

Wala, wala namang...
Wala namang perpektong tao

Parang walang hangganan
Ang kirot ng bangungot, di mo makalimutan

Ikaw ay nanlulumo

Bilang na ba ang araw?
Gusto mo ng sumuko,
Mundo ay nagugunaw

Wala, wala namang...
Wala namang perpektong tao

Ano ba ang epekto, kung meron kang depekto?
Ano ba ang epekto kung meron kang depekto?
Ano ba ang epekto kung meron kang depekto?
Ano ba ang epekto kung meron kang depekto?

Ikaw ay inaalon
Walang kalaban-laban
Tuluyang nalulunod tungo sa kalaliman

Ikaw ay nalulula

Agad kang nahuhulog
Babagsak sa lupa at biglang madudurog

Ikaw ay nagdurusa
Kaya pa bang tumagal
Hindi na makahinga
Lalo pang nasasakal

Ikaw ay dumadaing
Dala mo ba ay sumpa
Para kang ililibing at ipinagluluksa.

Wala, wala namang...
Wala namang perpektong tao

Ano ba ang epekto, kung meron kang depekto?
Ano ba ang epekto kung meron kang depekto?
Ano ba ang epekto kung meron kang depekto?
Ano ba ang epekto kung meron kang depekto?

Wala...
Wala namang...
Wala namang perpekto
Anu ba ang epekto ung meron kang depekto?
Wala namang perpektong tao...

Beautiful Ones by Suede

This song has probably the most memorable video from the 90's... aside from being a really sick song. How the hell can you forget this song? The video, which displays the words of the song thru objects is really awesome. The performance part of the video is one of my favorites as well. I originally thought that the singer looked a tad bit girly and has this annoying voice, but hell why mess with success!

One moment I remember from the song was seeing it on MTV coming home after the classes got suspended because our school's basketball team won.

High on diesel and gasoline
psycho for drum machine
shaking their bits to the hits

Drag acts drug acts suicides
n your dad's suits you hide
staining his name again

Cracked up stacked up 22
psycho for sex and glue
lost it to Bostik yeah
Shaved heads rave heads on the pill
got too much time to kill
get into bands and gangs

Oh here they come the beautiful ones the beautiful ones
Lalalala

Loved up doved up, hung around,
stoned in a lonely town
shaking their meat to the beat,

High on diesel and gasoline,
psycho for drum machine
shaking their bits to the hits

Oh, here they come, the beautiful ones, the beautiful ones.
Lalalala

You don't think about it,
You don't do without it,
because you're beautiful,

And if your baby's going crazy
that's how you made me,
la, la, la, la...

Animal by Def Leppard

I've owned Def Leppard's Hysteria album for the past 3-4 years already, having only listened to it once. Just this weekend, I started to think again what made this album special, having sold about 20million records worldwide. This track caught my attention, it made a spark that other songs didn't. I just probably don't get the songs and can't relate to them, but this has that certain flair for a song i just can't explain. It also has an interesting video, somewhat relating the band in a circus setting.

A wild ride, over stony ground
Such a lust for life, the circus comes to town
We are the hungry ones, on a lightning raid

Just like a river runs, like a fire needs flame...oh, I burn for you!

I gotta feel it in my blood, Whoa-oh!
I need your touch don't need your love
, Whoa-oh!
And I want, and I need, and I lust
, Animal!
And I want, and I need, and I lust,
Animal!

I cry wolf, given mouth to mouth
Like a movin' heartbeat in the witching hour
I'm runnin' with the wind, a shadow in the dust
And like the drivin' rain
Yeah, like the restless rust... I never sleep!

I gotta feel it in my blood, Whoa-oh!
I need your touch don't need your love, Whoa-oh!
And I want, and I need, and I lust,
Animal!
And I want, and I need, and I lust, Animal!

Huh! Oh!
Cry wolf baby

Cry tough

Gonna hunt you like an, uh, uh, animal
Gonna take your love n' run

I gotta feel it in my blood, Whoa-oh!
I need your touch don't need your love, Whoa-oh!
And I want, and I need, and I lust, Animal!
And I want, and I need, and I lust,
Animal!

And I want (And I want)
And I need (And I need)

And I lust (And I lust)

Animal (Animal)
And I want (Take me)

And I need (Tame me)
And I lust (Make me)
Animal (Your Animal)
And I want (Show me)
And I need (Stroke me)

And I lust
(Let me be your...)
Animal (Animal)
And I want (I want)

And I need (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
And I lust (Yeah Animal)
Animal
(Animal)

Shake Yer Head by Eraserheads

I was playing a lot of bass this year, ever since i invested on a really good amp. one of my targets is to learn alot of Eheads. As I have been playing in a Eraserheads cover band, i was motivated to study the basslines for the debut album note-for-note. Even though I was already aware of how great Buddy Zabala is on bass, I was still taken aback on how awesome some of the laid basslines were for Ultraelectromagneticpop. All I can say was "Wow, ang galing talaga". One of the challenge was actually to learn Shake Yer Head, as it's the bass who holds the rhythm parts with minimal drumming for the song. Plainly stated this one's really a great song

I was born upside down
I felt my grandma
Put my feet on the ground
They put a spoon in my mouth
And everyone was shocked to hear me shout

Well I knew I couldn't take
All that dog food that they make
And just as soon as pull myself
On a stake and burn
I saw it coming around
And so I just yeah,
Shook my head and walk away

I grew up in a town
Where everybody's trying to push me around
The girls are all right
But the guys are tough
They're always bugging me with macho stuffs

Well I ain't no super fighter
I go for flower power
I've been running every race
Just to save my face

Well, they try to see
If you care
It's just a matter of not begging for more
You know it's really suicidal to just give in
With people you can never really be sure

Oh, when I get down to this
They'll eat you up
When the words get in your head
They'll get you up
It's a saving grace
To have enough
When you find yourself in a compromising spot
You should know, you shouldn't take
All that dog food that they make
You'd just as soon as put yourself on a stake and burn

You see it coming around

How You Remind Me by Nickelback

I don't know, why recently lyrics of this song is buzzing through my head (Are We Having Fun Yet?), when I haven't listened to it for years. But hey this is a good song! Well written, catchy and Nickelback's an awesome band. I guess my old-self is asking to take a listen to the old albums again.

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing
Tired of living like a blind man
I'm sick of sight without a sense of feeling
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how you remind me
Of what I really am

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
for handing you a heart worth breaking
and I've been wrong, i've been down,
been to the bottom of every bottle
these five words in my head
scream "are we having fun yet?"

yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no
yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no

it's not like you didn't know that
I said I love you and I swear I still do
And it must have been so bad
Cause living with me must have damn near killed you

And this is how, you remind me
Of what I really am
This is how, you remind me
Of what I really am

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
for handing you a heart worth breaking
and I've been wrong, i've been down,
been to the bottom of every bottle
these five words in my head
scream "are we having fun yet?"

yet, yet, yet, no, no
yet, yet, yet, no, no
yet, yet, yet, no, no
yet, yet, yet, no, no

Never made it as a wise man
I couldn't cut it as a poor man stealing
And this is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
This is how you remind me
Of what i really am
This is how you remind me
Of what i really am

It's not like you to say sorry
I was waiting on a different story
This time I'm mistaken
for handing you a heart worth breaking
and I've been wrong, i've been down,
been to the bottom of every bottle
these five words in my head
scream "are we having fun yet?"
yet, yet
are we having fun yet

Silly Love Songs by Wings

Today, I called in sick for work, cause I'm sick ahead due and was feeling headaches. While browsing for the net how a Rickenbacker 4001 bass sounds, I came across this old Paul McCartney classic.

This has been the song of the day. I just fell in love the song.

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs.
But I look around me and I see it isn't so.
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know, 'cause here I go again

I love you
I love you
I love you
I love you

I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, now can't you see?
(I love you)
Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me, now can't you see,
(I love you)
What's wrong with that?
I need to know, 'cause here I go again

I love you
I love you

Love doesn't come in a minute,
Sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that when I'm in it
It isn't silly, love isn't silly, love isn't silly at all.

How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?

How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)

I love you
I love you
I love you
(I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?)
I love you
(Ah, he gave me more, he gave it all to me, say can't you see)
I love you
(I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?)
(How can I tell you about my loved one?)
I love you
(Ah, he gave me more, he gave it all to me, say can't you see)
(How can I tell you about my loved one?)
I love you
(I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?)
(How can I tell you about my loved one?)
I love you
(Ah, he gave me more, he gave it all to me, say can't you see)
(How can I tell you about my loved one?)

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs.
But I look around me and I see it isn't so. Oh, no
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.
And what's wrong with that?

All She Wrote by Default

Default became one of my favorite bands during college with the the strenth of "Wasting My Time" from the debut album, The Fallout. I was heavily watching out for the 2nd album to come and when I got news that it was released in the US, I patiently downloaded the album thru music channels in IRC.

All She Wrote was the one which was very easy to listen to and became a favorite that time. I even convinced my bestfriend (Dris) to take a listen to the album and he liked the song as well, even trying to play it in an acoustic guitar.

Something's wrong with your mind
It won't think of me anymore
Was it all a waste of time
Tell me why was I such a chore
Broken bottles empty
Cut my mouth so I can't say

Today was that day
It was that time
And that was all that she wrote for me
You fell away
I don't know why
And that was all that she wrote for me

Lying here in your bed
The one that you liked to do it in
Pieces of long brown hair
Are all over it and still in my brain
i can't explain
What it's like not knowing if I'll ever cross your mind

Today was that day
It was that time
And that was all that she wrote for me
You fell away
I don't know why
And that was all that she wrote for me

Sleep through the day
Fight through the night
Seven a.m. and the tv is white
Covered in snow
I never knew that hell could get so cold

Today was that day
It was that time
And that was all that she wrote for me
You fell away
I don't know why
And that was all that she wrote for me

Today was that day
It was that time
And that was all that she wrote for me
You fell away
I don't know why
And that was all that she wrote for me

Something's wrong with your mind
It won't think of me anymore
Was it all a waste of time

If I Am by Nine Days

During HS and college, I really enjoyed watching music videos... today I just pass by most of it. It'a alway plus for a good song to have a good video, especially if it involves a cute girl, in this case a mysterious "seemingly" beautiful girl.

I wasn't able to own a copy of the album this song came from (The Madding Crowd), I was only able to borrow a pirated copy of the cd from a friend. Awesome song... just takes me to those years.

So your standing on a ledge,
It looks like you might fall.
So far down,
Or maybe you were thinking about jumping.
Now you could have it all,
If you learned a little patience!
For though I cannot fly,
I'm not content to crawl!...
So give me a little credit,
Have in me a little faith!
I want to be with you forever,
If tomorrow's not too late!...
And it's always too late when you've got nothing
So you say!...
But you should never let the sun set on tomorrow,
Before the sun rises today...
IF I AM!
Another waste of everything you dreamed of,
I will let you down...
IF I AM!
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down...
So your walking on the edge,
And you wait your turn to fall.
But you're so far gone,
That you don't see the hands upheld to catch you.
And you could find the fault,
In the heart that you've been handed!
For though you cannot fly,
You're not content to crawl!...
And it's always too late when you've got nothing
So you say!...
But you should never let the sun set on tomorrow,
Before the sun rises...
IF I AM!
Another waste of everything you hoped for,
I will let you down...
IF I AM!
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down...
So you're standing on a ledge,
It looks like you might fall...
IF I AM!
Another waste of everything you dreamed of,
I will let you down...
IF I AM!
Only here to watch you as you suffer,
I will let you down...
The answers we find,
Are never what we had in mind.
So we make it up as we go along...
You don't talk of dreams
I won't mention tomorrow.
And we won't make those promises that we can't keep...
I will never leave you!
I will not let you down!
I will never leave you!
I will not let you down!

Building a Mystery by Sarah Mclachlan

I feel in love with Sarah Mclachlan by virtue of this song. Period!

You come out at night
That's when the energy comes
And the dark side's light
And the vampires roam
You strut your rasta wear
And your suicide poem
And a cross from a faith that died
Before Jesus came
You're building a mystery

You live in a church
Where you sleep with voodoo dolls
And you won't give up the search
For the ghosts in the halls
You wear sandals in the snow
And a smile that won't wash away
Can you look out the window
Without your shadow getting in the way?

You're so beautiful
With an edge and charm
but so careful
When I'm in your arms

Cause you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully

You woke up screaming aloud
A prayer from your secret god
You feed off our fears
And hold back your tears, oh
Give us a tantrum
And a know it all grin
Just when we need one
When the evening's thin

You're a beautiful
A beautiful fucked up man
You're setting up your
Razor wire shrine

Cause you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully

Ooh you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully

Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully

You're building a mystery

Cinnamon Girl by Prince

This is one of my favorite Prince guitar performances. He just attacks the song with ferocity. The song shares it's title with a Neil Young song I believe. I remember waking up at the mid-night because of the noise my older brother is doing and this song is in the screen. I wouldn't forget that moment... seeing Prince blaze a guitar solo for the video of this song.

I believe the song is somewhat inspired by the tragic events of 9/11. I guess this song is one of the positive things that came out of that event.

As war drums beat in Babylon
Cinnamon girl starts 2 pray
Eye've never heard a prayer like this 1
Never b4 that day

Tearful words of love 4 people she had never met b4
Asking God 2 grant them mercy in this face of a holy war

Cinnamon Girl

Cinnamon Girl of mixed heritage
Never knew the meaning of color lines
911 turned that all around
When she got accused of this crime

So began the mass illusion, war on terror alibi
What's the use when the god of confusion keeps on telling the same lie?

Cinnamon Girl

Don't cry, don't shed no tears
1 night won't make us feel
Cause we know how this movie's ending

Cinnamon Girl

As war drums beat in Babylon
And scorch the blood red sky
Militants bomb the foreign gun
Both sides truly die

Cinnamon girl opens the book she knows will settle all the scores
Then she prays after the war that there will not b anymore

Cinnamon Girl

Never the Bright Lights by Violent Playground

I'll be honest... I only found about this song by listening to Rivermaya's cover album, Isang Ugat, Isang Dugo. Thinking it was a song that was made in the 80's* (as most of the songs in the album were), I was surprised that it came from a band whose album I've seen for quite some time already but never bothered in buying.

Right now I've been listening to a lot of local bands and have found these treasure of songs! I was happy I was able to buy the Primordial Soup album for the new year.

My favorite part of the song is when the singer sings the title.

I see the people walking down the streets at night
And they all look like they long for a fight
It's like a dream where everybody is for sale
In a country where there angry and the sky is pale
We always want something more, then we want it all
So you can go back to your life, if that's what is called
It's such a terrible fate to be young and ugly
To be faced by so much uncertainty
You'd better keep your sanity

Bright lights go up
Big city come down

All this confusion gives you notions of self destruction
So you think of something that may keep us together
He may be black, he may be white
But they don't need to fight
In a city where there's too much violence already
Look at the sky it's dirty, and it's gray and filthy
And today looks just like yesterday
You ask yourself how long can a bad thing last
When we are sodden to our knees with so much strife
They say it's meant to change your life

I see the people walking down the street at night
And they all look like they long for a fight
Just like the old man said: "What are you gonna do with your life?"
Never the bright lights

*Note: just found out that the song was indeed from the 80's but was rerecorded in the 90's for this album.

Wish You Were Here by Incubus

I was the biggest Incubus fan at the time when Morning View came out. Everytime i'll get online, I'll visit the official Incubus webpage and the fansites as well. I downloaded pictures, wall papers and bootleg copies of the song.

The first time I heard this single... my mind was blown. It was just a mind-fuck. I can't forget listening to the guitars and drums thinking... "Oh shit.... this is fucking it". Hearing Brandon's voice being sampled by DJ Kilmore... that was awesome as well.

This might sound funny, but I see Incubus's music as one of my inspirations for getting good grades back in the day.

I dig my toes into the sand
The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds
Strewn across a blue blanket
I lean against the wind
Pretend that I am weightless
And in this moment I am happy...happy

I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here

I lay my head onto the sand
The sky resembles a back lit canopy
With holes punched in it
I'm counting UFOs
I signal them with my lighter
And in this moment I am happy...happy

I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
Wish you were here

The world's a roller coaster
And I am not strapped in
Maybe I should hold with care
But my hands are busy in the air saying:

I wish you were here
I wish you were

I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
Wish you were here

Wave of Emotion by Richie Kotzen

Richie Kotzen entered by musical consciousness when he became the guitarist of Mr. Big replacing Paul Gilbert. Little did I know that Kotzen was the guitarist of Poison for the Native Tongue album, which i became familiar with back in the day because of my older brother.

This song is from a solo effort, the album sharing the same title, Wave of Emotion. I bought my Japan made CD (with accompanying OBI strip) in Quiapo. This is one of the songs I really enjoy from the album.

Said I brought you down (look in the mirror)
Truth goes round and round (sounds a little clearer)
Blame lives on your tongue (fault for everyone)
you're on your way alone...
Said you're life's too hard (take a look around you)
Ignore that baby scar (it will prolong you)
Love the things you hate (Repeat's your middle name)
To live is not too late..

We ride on the Wave of Emotion...
Emotion that may carry you up or down...
People and their problems...
No one stands alone...ride on the Wave of Emotion...

Say walk inmy shoes (ain't never been worn)
You look for ways to lose (every single moment)
Pity is what you use (to get what you want)
I'm Tired of hearin' your blues...

We ride on the Wave of Emotion...
Emotion that may carry you up or down...
People and their problems...
No one stands alone...
ride on the Wave of Emotion...

(Ow yeah yeah) Tell me what you're gonna do...
(Ow mama) When it all comes down on you...
(Ow yeah yeah) Time has got control you see...
(Time is keeper you see) we ride on the Wave of Emotion...
Emotion that may carry you up or down...
People and their problems...
No one stands alone...
ride on the Wave of Emotion...

We ride, Wave of Emotion...
Emotion, carry you up or down..

All their problems... all stand as one..
Ride on the Wave of Emotion..

Ride..o, Ride on the Wave of Emotion...

Remenis by Rivermaya

From old Rivermaya to the latest incarnation of Rivermaya. To be honest the last album, Closest Thing to Heaven, is a great Album. People should start looking past Rivermaya being Rico Blanco's band. These guys have written good music for the past two albums with Blanco and they deserve a lot better.

Mark Escueta's drumwork on Closest Thing to Heaven and Buhay is something I really enjoy listening to.
As it turns out, he gets sole credit in writing this song as well!

Ano ang kulay ng paglimot?
Isasalin ko sana sa bughaw na nadarama
Naghahabi ng paghilom
Buhay natin ang tema
Alaala ang tinta

Simple lang ang buhay noon
Lahat ng bagay abot ng 'sang kamay
Himbing natin gintong nakaraan
Paminsan-minsan lamang balikan

Sinimulan
Inaalagaan
Pinaninindigan
Muli nating balikan ang simula

Hinahanap-hanap Kita by Rivermaya

This song probably has the best filipino lyrics for a love song. The word-play that Rico Blanco incorporates in this song is just legendary. My favorite line is the first one in the song. It also has arguably the one of the bass lines recorded in pinoy rock history.

To top that, it has a narrated lyrics part and spills over to a instrumental of the classic OPM song, Maalala Mo Kaya.

“Adik sa’yo”, awit sa akin
nilang sawa na sa aking
mga kwentong marathon
Tungkol sa’yo, at sa ligayang
iyong hatid sa aking buhay
tuloy ang bida sa isipan ko’y ikaw

Sa umaga’t sa gabi sa
bawa’t minutong lumilipas
Hinahanap-hanap kita,
hinahanap-hanap kita
Sa isip at panaginip,
bawa’t pagpihit ng tadhana
Hinahanap-hanap kita

Sabik sa’yo kahit maghapon
na tayong magkasama’t parang telesine
Ang ating ending Hatid sa bahay n’yo
Sabay goodnight, sabay me-kiss,
sabay bye-bye

Sa school sa flag ceremony
hanggang uwian araw-araw
Hinahanap-hanap kita,
hinahanap-hanap kita
At kahit na magka-anak kayo’t
magkatuluyan balang araw
Hahanap-hanapin ka,
hahanap-hanapin ka

Until the End of Time by Justin Timberlake

I don't know. There's just something about the music of this song. I never digested what the lyrics are and what they mean (most probably a love song), but the instant I heard this song and knew it was good.

Justin Timberlake, has so far, churned out good-quality music. I hope it continues.

Listen

Woke up this morning
Heard the TV sayin' something
'Bout disaster in the world and
It made me wonder where I'm going
There's so much darkness in the world
But I see beauty left in you girl
And what you give me let's me know
That I'll be alright

'cause if your love was all I had
In this life
Well that would be enough
Until the end of time
So rest your weary heart
And relax your mind
Cause I'm gonna love you girl
Until the end of time

You've got me singing
Oh whoa, yeah
Oh whoa, yeah
Everybody sing
Oh whoa, yeah
Everybody singing
Oh whoa yeah

Now if you're ever wondering
About the way I'm feeling
Well baby girl there ain't no question
Just to be around you is a blessing
Sick and tired of trying to save the world
I just want to spend my time with you girl
And what you're giving me
Let's me know that we'll be alright.

'cause if your love was all I had
In this life
Well that would be enough
Until the end of time
So rest your weary heart
And relax your mind
Cause I'm gonna love you girl
Until the end of time

You've got me singing
Oh whoa, yeah
Oh whoa, yeah
Everybody sing
Oh whoa, yeah
Everybody singing
Oh whoa yeah

This one's for the lovers
If you're out there let me hear you say
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
This one's for the lovers
If you're out there let me hear you say
Yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah)
This one's for the lovers
If you're out there let me hear you say
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
This one's for the lovers
If you're out there let me hear you say
Yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah)

Oh whoa yeah
Oh whoa yeah
Oh whoa yeah
Oh whoa yeah

'cause if your love was all I had
In this life
That would be enough
Until the end of time

Trip to Jerusalem by Eraserheads

There were only 2 singles that I'm familiar with that came of from the Eraserhead's Christmas album aptly titled Fruitcake, one sharing the same title as the album. The other is this song, Trip to Jerusalem.

This is my favorite song of the Fruitcake album. I believe the video for this song might have helped in having that choice. I just remember point of view of the camera traveling and it seems to be flying on some angles.

The guitar riff on the chorus is also SiCk!!! It just sticks in my mind like a glue.

Open your door
Dance on the floor
Hey what’s your name
Let’s play a game
I am the champ
Come see me stomp

It never ends

Oh tell me do you wanna fly
Fly high way up in the sky
Or maybe you don’t even have to try
All you have to do is follow that star

But when the star doesn’t shine
You won’t be able to find your way
And the wiseman will still remain
The king of trip to jerusalem

Sometimes you win
Sometimes you fail
Choose holy blood
Lose holy grail
Just when you think you’ve gone so far
You find yourself back to the start

It never ends

Oh tell me do you wanna fly
Fly high way up in the sky
Or maybe you don’t even have to try
All you have to do is follow that star

But when the star doesn’t shine
You won’t be able to find your way
There won’t be any other chance to be
The king of trip to jerusalem

The music plays like a heavenly choir
Lovely chairs are there if you get tired

Don’t listen to a word he says
He’s just trying to distract you
Do your own thing stick with what you want

Open your drawer
Dance on the floor
And now at last just two of us
Only one chair
Who will sit there
Is it the king or
Is it the heir

It never ends

Oh tell me do you wanna fly
Fly high way up in the sky
Or maybe you don’t even have to try
All you have to do is follow that star

But when the star doesn’t shine
You won’t be able to find your way
The only thing that we can do is pray
On our trip to jerusalem

You Didn't Break It by Steve Vai

I bought my first Steve Vai album at a local record shop for around P100. This was probably one of the more pop oriented songs in the album, a song I definitely loved so much that I included in a mix tape (or more appropriately mixed cd I gave to a girl)

According to the liner notes, it was written by a couple, Bob and Suzannah Harris who goes by the commercial name Rantin and Rayven. On this record, they sang the vocals and backing vocals respectively.

You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break my heart when you split
You only cracked it just a bit

Somethin's changed
Though I know my heart ain't plastic
I guess through the years it's grown
A little more elastic

'Cause this time cryin' time
Didn't last as long
And my heart just needed minor repairs
And it feels pretty strong
(Feels pretty strong)
And it's movin' right along

You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break my heart when you split
You only cracked it just a bit

You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break my heart

Losin' love, it used to crush me
Now it doesn't
I just figured it was meant to be
Or it wasn't

So if you wanna know
Now that you're gone, the shape I'm in
You never clipped the wings of my heart
It's gonna fly again.

You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break my heart when you split
You only cracked it just a bit

You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break it
You didn't break my heart

I got somethin' that keeps me goin'
I got a habit of comin' around, honey
You didn't run me off the highway
You only slowed me down

Hello Again by Hoobastank

Hoobastank was one of my favorite bands during college, especially after getting immersed in Incubus music. Members of both bands were school mates as far as i remember.

The band might be more famous for singles such as the Reason and Crawling in the Dark, but they really had some good songs, one of which is this song, Hello Again.

Dan Estrin, the guitarist, uses a lot of textures and layers for the guitar parts... and I love how the riffs are put together in this song. Bass lines didn't go wrong neither.

I dream that someday we'll be able to
Look back on this together and say

It was for the best and that it made us

Stronger today, stronger today

There's much more for us to see
A brand new day for you and me

And with confidence I say, "We're better than ever"
And I don't know where this will lead
But in my life you need to be
Cause I need to say, "Hello again"

I'm so afraid that if I wait too long
You'll never look in my eyes again

With a look that gave me strength and gave me hope
And made me feel I've inspired

There's much more for us to see
A brand new day for you and me

And with confidence I say, "We're better than ever"
And I don't know where this will lead
But in my life you need to be
Cause I need to say, "Hello again"

Hello again, hello again, yea
Hello again, yea

There's much more for us to see

A brand new day for you and me
And with confidence I say, "We're better than ever"
And I don't know where this will lead
But in my life you need to be
Cause I need to say, "Hello again"
