Colombia by Oasis

Just re-discovered this song about 2 weeks ago, listening to the album while waiting for my parents at the mall. The guitars are just amazing, even though I can't comprehend the lyrics I
loved it! This is probably one of the best Oasis songs for me.

There we were now here we are
All this confusion nothings the same to me
There we were now here we are
All this confusion nothings the same to me

But I can't tell you the way I feel
Because the way I feel is oh so! new to me
No I can't sell you the way I feel
Because the way I feel is oh so! new to me

What I heard is not what I hear
I can see the signs but they're not very clear
What I heard is not what I hear
I can see the signs but they're not very clear

This is confusion am I confusing you?

A Long December by Counting Crows

I liked this song during High School and was reminded of it today. I remember having a crush on Courteney Cox particularly for the video of this song. I saw a 2nd hand cd of this recently but decided against buying it because of the poor condition of the inlays. I tried to listen to the song again and was easily reminded of how good the song is, even hearing notes and subtleties i didn't hear before.

A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can't remember the last thing you said as you were leavin'
Now the days go by so fast

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think that I could be forgiven... I wish you would

The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that its all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl

And it's one more day up in the canyons
And it's one more night in Hollywood
If you think you might come to California... I think you should

Drove up to the Hillside Manor sometime after two a.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her

And it's been a long December and there's no reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better that the last
I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass

And it's one more day up in the canyon
And its one more night in Hollywood
It's been so long since Ive seen the ocean... I guess I should

Yellow by Coldplay

I didn't liked this song when i first heard, but those driving guitars can really change your perspective about this song, music (and life) in general.

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all yellow,

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh all the things I've done
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know you know I love you so
You know I love you so

I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh all the things you do
Cause you were all yellow

I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know for you i bleed myself dry
For you i bleed myself dry

Its true look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine for you
look how they shine
look at the stars look how they shine for you

Like a Friend by Pulp

One of the coolest songs I've heard. Simple and powerful at the same time. Great song writing from the guys from Pulp.

Don't bother saying you're sorry
Why don't you come in
Smoke all my cigarettes again

Every time I get no further
How long has it been?
Come on in now, wipe your feet on my dreams

You take up my time
Like some cheap magazine
When I could have been learning something
Oh well, you know what I mean, oh

I've done this before
And I will do it again
Come on and kill me baby
While you smile like a friend

Oh and I'll come running
Just to do it again

You are the last drink I never should have drunk
You are the body hidden in the trunk
You are the habit I can't seem to kick
You are my secrets on the front page every week
You are the car I never should have bought
You are the dream I never should have caught
You are the cut that makes me hide my face
You are the party that makes me feel my age
Like a car crash I can see but I just can't avoid
Like a plane I've been told I never should board
Like a film that's so bad but I've got to stay till the end
Let me tell you now: it's lucky for you that we're friends.

Meet Virginia by Train

One of my favorite bands around the 2005-2006 period was Train. I even searched for the band's debut album after I got impressed by the 2nd album. I don't really remember if I bought this or traded another CD for it, but I'm happy that i got a copy of the album. I also remember seeing the video for this song on Channel V

She doesn't own a dress
Her hair is always a mess
If you catch her stealin'
She won't confess
She's beautiful.

Smokes a pack a day
Wait that's me, but anyway
She doesn't care a thing about that, hey
She thinks I'm beautiful.

Meet Virginia

She never compromises
Loves babies and surprises
Wears high heels when she exercises
Ain't that beautiful?

Meet Virginia

Well she want's to be the queen
And she thinks about her scene
Pulls her hair back and she screams,
"I don't really want to be the queen!"

Daddy wrestles alligators
mama works on carburetors
Her brother is a fine mediator
For the president.

Here she is again on the phone
Just like me; hates to be alone
We just like to sit at home
And rip on the president.

Meet Virginia

Well she wants to live her life
And she thinks about her life
Pulls her hair back and she screams,
"I don't really want to live this life!"

She only drinks coffee at midnight
When the moment is not right
Her timing is quite
Unusual

You see, her confidence is tragic
And her intuition magic
And the shape of her body, (? not sure about this line ?)
Unusual.

Meet Virginia
I can't wait to
Meet Virginia,
Yeah.

Well she want's to be the queen
And she thinks about her scene
Well she wants to live her life
And she thinks about her life
Pulls her hair back and she screams,
"I don't really want to be the queen!
I, I don't really want to be the queen!
I, I don't really want to be the queen!
I, I don't really want to live this..."

Moment of Surrender by U2

This is one of my favorite songs in U2's latest album, No Line on the Horizon. I tried to listen to it intently for the 2nd time during my commute to work. I'm just impressed. Bono's voice just carries this.

I tied myself with wire
To let the horses roam free

Playing with the fire

Until the fire played with me

The stone was semi precious
We were barely conscious

Two souls too smart to be

In the realm of certainty

Even on our wedding day

We set ourselves on fire
Oh God, do not deny her

Its not if I believe in love

(But) If love believes in me

Oh believe in me

At the moment of surrender
I folded to my knees

I did not notice the passers by

And they did not notice me

I’ve been in every black hole

At the alter of the Dark star

My body's now a begging bowl

That's begging to get back

Begging to get back

To my heart

To the rhythm of my soul

To the rhythm of my consciousness

To the rhythm that yearns

To be released from control

I was punching in the numbers at the ATM machine
I could see in the reflection

A face staring back at me

At the moment of surrender

Of vision over visibility

I did not notice the passers by

And they did not notice me

I was speeding off the subway
Through the stations of the cross

Every eye looking every other way

Counting down till the pain will stop

At the moment of surrender
Of vision over visibility

I did not notice the passers by

And they did not notice me

Eight Days A Week by The Beatles

I heard a show tune cover version of this song and I was reminded of how great this song is. The lyrics are catchy, especially the title. Lennon and McCartney are certainly giants in the field of songwriting.

Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you,Ooo.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time,ooh

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love girl,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Ooh I need your love babe,
Guess you know it's true.
Hope you need my love babe,
Just like I need you.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week.

Eight days a week
I love you.
Eight days a week
Is not enough to show I care.

Love you ev'ry day girl,
Always on my mind.
One thing I can say girl,
Love you all the time.

Hold me, love me, hold me, love me.
I ain't got nothin' but love babe,
Eight days a week,
Eight days a week,
Eight days a week.

Love Won't Wait by Gary Barlow

As a teenager, how can you not love the video for this song? The girl also looks like my high school crush, that's why i was into this song at that time.

I just found out that this was partly written by Madonna. Wow. Gary Barlow had a pretty decent run, I didn't know that Robbie Williams would have more commercial impact, but hey they both had decent runs.

When I first saw your face
I knew that I could not hesitate
You said 'Baby, don't go too fast'
If we do then it may not last
Time went on and I waited for you
I didn't know what else I could do
I thought that we'd always be together
You said 'Hold on it just gets better'

And I believed you, I kept holding on
You think that I can never leaved you
You think I'm not that strong, you're wrong

Love won't wait
Forever and a day
Love must live in the here and now
Don't ask me how I know

So here I am with my heart on my sleeves
You said, 'Baby put your trust in me'
But I've come to the end of the line
And you've wasted up all of my precious time
Wanted to be something special to you
Everybody is somebody's fool
Won't be a fool, no you've got me all wrong
You don't know what you had till it's gone

Love takes time
But you've been taking too long
Time never waited for anyone
Don't wait too long or I'll be gone
Don't wait too long or I'll be gone
I'll be gone

That wasn't anything that I wouldn't do
You led me on, you even said 'I love you'
How can we go on when it's tearing us apart
Are you going to break my heart
Cause I believed you

Aeroplane by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Red Hot Chili Peppers only outing with Dave Navarro was not that big of a hit, but just listening to this song, you can't argue that great musicians when they join together are most likely to have success.

I love the how the funk guitar in the verses compliments Flea's bass lines. This song just turns on me whenever I listen to it. Flea's just awesome specially the chorus lines.

I like pleasure spiked with pain and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

Looking in my own eyes, hey Lord
I can't find the love I want
Someone better slap me
Before I start to rust
Before I start to decompose
Looking in my rearview mirror
Looking in my rearview mirror
I can make it disappear
I can make it disappear
Have no fear

I like pleasure spiked with pain and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

Sitting in my kitchen, hey girl
I'm turning into dust again
My melancholy baby
The star of mazzy must
Push her voice inside of me
I'm overcoming gravity
I'm overcoming gravity
It's easy when you're sad to be
It's easy when you're sad, sad like me

I like pleasure spiked with pain and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

Just one note
Could make me float
Could make me float away
One note from
The song she wrote
Could fuck me where I lay
Just one note
Could make me choke
One note that's
Not a lie
Just one note
Could cut my throat
One note could make me die

I like pleasure spiked with pain and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane and
Music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

A Love to Share by Rivermaya

I distinctly remember hearing this song live for the 1st time. My and Dris was outside the Folk Arts Theater waiting in line to see Hoobastank back in 2004. That day, I rediscovered Rivermaya and their music. Just an awesome song. That night, I had the thought that some OPM bands are just good enough to embarrass headlining foreign acts.

If I could take over this world that we're in
I wanna reach out to every human being
I'll take all the sorrows from every goodbye
I'll shed all the tears so no one ever needs to cry
But...

Nobody cares for me
Nobody here needs me
A love to share but
Nobody dares
Nobody cares for me

I'll summon the oceans to drown every pain
I wanna be shelter to the countless in shame
Erase every conflict from every divide
I wanna give every little thing 'til I die
Singing...

Nobody cares for me
Nobody here needs me
A love to share but
Nobody dares
Nobody cares for me

Perfect by The Smashing Pumpkins

This song is one of my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song, specifically because I like the video (similar to why I like the song 1979). I remember finding one of the girls in the video cute (the short-haired brunette).

This song could have used Jimmy Chamberlin drums, but the drum programming fitted the song I guess.

I know
We're just like old friends
We just can't pretend
That lovers make amends

We are
Reasons so unreal
We can't help but feel
That something has been lost

But please
You know you're just like me
Next time I promise we'll be

Perfect
Perfect

Perfect
Strangers down the line
Lovers out of time
Memories unwind

So far
I still know who you are
But now
I wonder who I was...

Angel, you know it's not the end
We'll always be good friends
The letters have been sent on

So please,
You always were so free
You'll see, I promise we'll be

Perfect
Perfect

Strangers when we meet
Strangers on the street
Lovers while we sleep

Perfect
You know this has to be
We always we're so free
We promised that we'd be
Perfect

Love Untold by Paul Westerberg

I just love simply melody songs such as ones that are written by Paul Westerberg. I just wish that someday, I'll be able to write simple, heartfelt songs.

They were gonna meet
On a rocky mountain street
Two bashful hearts beat in advance

Their hands were gonna sweat
It was all set
She ain't showed up yet
Still a good chance

It's a love untold
It's a love untold

Checking on her face
Checks his sleeve for his ace
And both just in case wear clean underwear

Games would be played
Excuses would be made
The stupid things they said
In their prayers

Oh about a love untold
It's a love untold

Soft hands slowly move across the blank white page
Thinking of words for my silent lips and fingers to obey

Oh about a love untold
It's a love untold

They were gonna meet on a crummy little street
It never came to be I'm told
Does anyone recall the saddest love of all
The one that lets you fall nothing to hold
It's the love untold...
Once upon a love untold
Just another love untold

They were gonna meet on a crummy little street

Settle Down by ZWAN

Yesterday, I was looking for new old music to listen to and bumped into Mary Star of the Sea, ZWAN's debut and only record. I've owned it for more than 3 years already, but it was just yesterday that I began to appreciate the record. I also noticed how great of a drummer Jimmy Chamberlin really is. It's always fun to rediscover something, it's like finding a 500peso bill on a pair of pants by surprise.

Settle down, don't settle down without me, no, no
Settle down, I'll settle down for good, yeah
Settle down, I'll settle down around you, yeah, yeah
Settle down, I'll settle down for sure, yeah

Whatever i can do, i will
'Cause I'm good like that
For seven years, seven days, and seven hours
I took my chances, yeah
Whatever i can do, i will
'Cause i want

Never lose that feeling
Never lose that feeling

Settle down, I'll settle down around you, yeah, yeah
Settle down, I'll settle down for good, yeah
Settle down, don't settle down without me, no, no
settle down, I'll settle down for sure, yeah

Never lose that feeling
Never, no, no
Never lose your feelings
Never, that's for sure

Never lose that feeling
Never lose that feeling
Never lose that feeling
Never lose that feeling
Never lose that feeling
Never lose that feeling

Whatever i can do, i will
'Cause i want to, and what i want i get
Seven years, seven days, and seven hours
I took my chances, yeah

Settle down, don't settle down without me, no, no
Settle down, I'll settle down for good, yeah
Settle down, I'll settle down around you, yeah, yeah
Settle down, I'll settle down for sure, yeah

Never lose that feeling
Never, no, no, no

Help Me by Nick Carter

This is probably the single song that I like (so far) coming from a Backstreet Boys member. This song's pretty decent, too radio-friendly I guess. But still ok. I guess it's difficult not too come up with a bad song if you have a group of song-makers ready to make hits at your prodding. It also helps that i was able to buy my copy of this album for only 20 pesos.

I also remember seeing a cute girl bassist on the video for this song.

I wish I could define
All the thoughts that crossed my mind
They seem too big for me to choose
I don't know which ones to lose
When I'm falling down so far
I think I'll never see your light
Bouncing off of me
Shining down here from your eyes

Help me
Figure out the difference
Between right and wrong
Weak and strong
Day and night
Where I belong and
Help me
Make the right decisions
Know which way to turn
Lessons to learn
And just what my purpose is here

It's like I got the signals crossed
With messages I can't decode
Half asleep, never wide awake
And I'm in complete overload
I got so much information here
And nothing I can really grasp
I should know the truth
But I'm too afraid so I have to ask

Help me
Figure out the difference
Between right and wrong
Weak and strong
Day and night
Where I belong and
Help me
Make the right decisions
Know which way to turn
Lessons to learn
And just what my purpose is here

Wanna know you
More than anything
I need you
In my every dream, you're there for me
Do you love me?
For who I am, no angel
Just an ordinary man

Help me figure out why I'm stuck in the middle
Trying to understand why I can't
Why you're such a riddle
Got my eyes crossed
I'm thinking so hard and I know I'm missing the mark
Can you help me sort out
All this information
I'm just rackin' my brain, baby
Paying attention
But I'm still lost
And at all costs
I gotta know (gotta know, oh)

Help me
Figure out the difference
Between right and wrong
Weak and strong
Day and night
Where I belong and
Help me
Make the right decisions
Know which way to turn
Lessons to learn
And just what my purpose is here

Help me figure out why I'm stuck in the middle
Trying to understand why I can't
Why you're such a riddle
Got my eyes crossed
I'm thinking so hard and I know I'm missing the mark
Can you help me sort out
All this information
I'm just rackin' my brain, baby
Paying attention
But I'm still lost
And at all costs
I gotta know

Bittersweet Me by R.E.M.

I think this is the first time in this blog that I've out successive entries of songs from the same band. I could be in an R.E.M. funk today, but I've been planning to write about this song for more than a year actually.

Bittersweet Me is one of my favorites in the New Adventures in Hi-Fi album, along with E-Bow the letter. It's just a good R.E.M. rocking song from the mid/late 90s. I notice as well that one of the actors also appears in the Nickelodeon show Pete & Pete.

I move across, innocence lost
All flashing pulsar
I move across the earth in my new pattern shirt
I pass satellites

"You're so bitter," your complaint
I can't give you anything
I don't know who you're livin' for
I don't know who you are anymore

I'd sooner chew my leg off,
Than be trapped in this
How easy you think of all of this as bittersweet me

I couldn't taste it
I'm tired and naked
I don't know what I'm hungry for
I don't know what I want anymore

I move across, candy floss
I move like a tank
I move across the room
With a heart full of gloom,
Stronger than you think

Oh my peer,
Your veneer is wearing thin and cracking
The surface informs that underneath,
Underneath is lacking

I'd sooner chew my leg off,
Than be trapped in this
How easy you think of all of this as bittersweet me

I couldn't taste it
I'm tired and naked
I don't know what I'm hungry for
I don't know what I want anymore

You move across, innocence lost,
All static and desire,
You're blue in the face from navel gaze,
You set yourself on fire

You strip down and lay yourself out,
I know you can't fake it,
But are you tired and naked?
Are you tire and naked?

I'd sooner chew my leg off,
Than be trapped in this
How easy you think of all of this as bittersweet me

I couldn't taste it
I'm tired and naked
I don't know what I'm hungry for
I don't know what I want anymore

Imitation of Life by R.E.M.

Never was a big fan of R.E.M. while growing up though the album New Adventures in Hi-Fi was a favorite. I bought the Out of Time album just this weekend, however this was the song that was coming into my head today, specifically the line "That sugar cane that tasted good"

Charades, pop skill
Water hyacinth, named by a poet
Imitation of life.
Like a koi in a frozen pond.
Like a goldfish in a bowl.
I don't want to hear you cry.

That sugarcane that tasted good.
That cinnamon, that's Hollywood.
C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try.

You want the greatest thing
The greatest thing since bread came sliced.
You've got it all, you've got it sized.
Like a Friday fashion show teenager
Freezing in the corner
Trying to look like you don't try.

That sugarcane that tasted good.
That cinnamon, thats Hollywood.
C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try.

No one can see you cry.

That sugar cane that tasted good.
That freezing rain, that's what you could.
C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry.

This sugarcane
This lemonade
This hurricane, I'm not afraid.
C'mon, c'mon no one can see you cry.

This lightning storm
This tidal wave
This avalanche, I'm not afraid.
C'mon, c'mon no one can see me cry.

That sugar cane that tasted good.
That's who you are, that's what you could.
C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry.

That sugar cane that tasted good.
That's who you are, that's what you could.
C'mon, c'mon on no one can see you cry.

Lumapit by Archipelago

I admire this song for it's simplicity. Some days its just what you need.

And some repetitive lyrics...

'Wag kang madadapa
'Wag kang mahuhulog
'Wag kang mawawala
'Wag kang matutulog

Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin

Tumanaw ka sa daan
Lumingon ka sa likod
Ipunin ang yong tapang
Saka ka tumalon

Ikaw ang bibitaw,
Ikaw ang sasalo
Pagka't ikaw din ang aahon
Sa dagat ng gulo

Ikaw ang syang landas
Oh 'wag kang madudulas
Maghihintay ako
Uh-oh

Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin

Naliligaw ka ba?
Nalilito-lito?
Hindi ka ba kontento
Sa buhay mong bato?

Mapalad ka pa ba
Sa tadhanang hawak mo
Hawiin mo ang kwento
Iguhit ang sayo

Hawiin mo ang usok
ng pagkakabigo
Andito lang ako (andito lang ako)
Uh-oh

Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin
Lumapit ka sa akin

'Wag kang padudulas
'Wag kang padadapa
'Wag kang pahuhulog
'Wag kang madadapa

Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang mahuhulog)
Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang mawawala)
Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang matutulog)
Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang madadapa)

Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang mahuhulog)
Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang mawawala)
Lumapit ka sa akin ('Wag kang matutulog)
Lumapit

Not for You by Pearl Jam

It's just awesome when you rediscover good music in the old albums that you've been listening to. I decided to spin Vitalogy yesterday and was easily impressed once i heard this song. Classic Pearl Jam grit! I wonder why didn't I notice this all these years.

Restless soul,
Enjoy your youth

Like Muhammad hits the truth
Can't escape from the common rule
If you hate something, don't you do it too

Small my table, a sits just two
Got so crowded, I can't make room
Oh, where did they come from? Stormed my room!
And you dare say it belongs to you...to you...

This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, not for you...ah, you...
...scream...my friends...don't call me...
...friends, no they don't scream...
...my friends don't call...my friends don't...

All that's sacred comes from youth
Dedication, naive and true
With no power, nothing to do
I still remember, why don't you...don't you...

This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, never was for you...fuck you...
This is not for you...
Oh, this is not for you...yeah, you...
This is not for you...
Oh, not for you...
Oh, you...
