You Never Give Me Your Money by The Beatles

This may be the first Beatles entry here. And it's not even my top most favorite. However listening to this song recently made me feel alive and kicking. The Beatles are plain timeless and they are best to listen to when the chips are down and your friends are far away from you. They provide that convenience

You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper

and in the middle of negotiations

you break down

I never give you my number

I only give you my situation
and in the middle of investigation

I break down

Out of college, money spent

See no future, pay no rent
All the money's gone, nowhere to go

Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back

Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go

But oh, that magic feeling,
nowhere to go

Oh, that magic feeling

Nowhere to go
Nowhere to go

One sweet dream

Pick up the bags and get in the limousine

Soon we'll be away from here

Step on the gas and wipe that tear away

One sweet dream came true... today
Came true... today

Came true... today...yes it did

One two three four five six seven,

All good children go to Heaven

A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash

This song's a riot. I tried to listening to Johnny Cash after hearing word of the American V album, this was when he was already dead. Then I saw the Ring of Fire movie and had an increased curiousity for his music.

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now your gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name!

The Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd

Simply an awesome and powerful song. It's very simple and yet effective in evoking emotions. The singer, Clare Torry was said to have been paid £30 for her work. She cleary deserves more and reached a settlement with Pink Floyd. Try to give it a listen, the masters at work!

and I am not frightened of dying, any time will do, i dont mind.
why should I be frightened of dying? Theres no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime.
i never said I was frightened of dying.

Waiting For You by Ben Harper

The song fits my current mood. I've been waiting for someone and I know for a fact that all the waiting can turn out to be futile. She previously mentioned that she's not into me, I just want to talk to her for her to know me. I just want to spend some time with her that's all.

Well, good thing there's Ben Harper to express how i feel...

I' ve been waiting for you
I' ve been waiting for you
Never found enything else to do
But waiting for you

I' ve been calling your name
I' ve been calling your name
Never found anything else to say
Nothing to say

You can kill a lot of time if you really want put your mind do it
Leave it all behind if you never wanna go through it

I keep hearing your name
I keep hearing your name
Nothing else sounds the same
As hearing your name

You can kill a lot of time if you really put your mind to it
Or leave it all behind and never ever go through it

I' ve been hoping for you
Keep hoping for you
What else can I do
But keep hoping for you?

You can kill a lot of time if you really put your mind to it
Or leave it all behind and never ever go through it

We can kill a lot and never really have to go through it

What else can I do
But keep hoping for you?

Hollow Years by Dream Theater

This song is just awesome! The melody is really moving. The version that I encountered was from the Once in a LIVEtime double disc of Dream Theater! Even though I didn't get the lyrics at that moment it still arrested me. The song sounds has a certain melancholy, and I appreciated the song better once i got to know the lyrics! Powerful!

He's just the kind of man You hear about
Who leaves his family for
An easy out
They never saw the signs
He never said a word
He couldn't take another day

Carry me to the shoreline
Bury me in the sand
Walk me across the water
And maybe you'll understand

Once the stone you're crawling under
Is lifted off your shoulders
Once the cloud that's raining over your head disappears
The noise that you'll hear is the crashing down of hollow years

She's not the kind of girl you hear about
She'll never want another
She'll never be without
She'll give you all the signs
She'll tell you everything
Then turn around and walk away

Carry me to the shoreline, bury me in the sand
(Into the waves)
Walk me across the water and maybe you'll understand

Once the stone you're crawling under
(Once the stone)
Is lifted off your shoulders
Once the cloud that's raining
Over your head disappears
The noise that you'll hear
Is the crashing down of hollow years

Carry me to the shoreline
Bury me in the sand
(Into the waves)
Walk me across the water
And maybe you'll understand

Once the stone
You're crawling under
Is lifted off your shoulders
Once the cloud that's raining
Over your head disappears
The noise that you'll hear
Is the crashing down of hollow years

Once the stone
You're crawling under
Once the stone
You're crawling under
(The sound you'll hear,)
Once the stone
(the crashing)
You're crawling under
(down of hollow years)
Once the stone
You're crawling under
Once the stone
You're crawling under
Once the stone
You're crawling under
(The sound you'll hear, the crashing down of hollow years)

Serious Offender by Rivermaya

I'm not really sure what this song is all about. Girls selling their soul to the devil? or girls having fun? Sex, drugs and rock n' roll? One thing's for sure, this song's rockin and was recorded by 3 individuals, the power of the trio. and talk about the solo? taena!

she is a catwalk siren
trapped in the latest fashion
in a seven eleven
she make you dream of heaven

she pull the strings of passion
with clinical precision
she is realization
of your imagination

she plants a gaze upon you
she feels her skin and sighs

she make you think
she wanna bang bodies
anywhere baby
but its got to be now

don't you believe her
she'll play you for a joke
the flesh is willing
and your spirit chokes

she's a serious offender
she's a serious offender

Eyes Wired Shut by Edgewater

I was arranging my CD collection when i chanced upon the Punisher movie CD that I have. I always have a good time when i listen to this album, with most songs coming from the Nu Metal inspired, more modern bands, meaning you won't find GNR, ACDC, Metallica in here.
When I hear this song, I stop whatever I'm doing as much as possible. There's something charismatic about the guitar intro and the vocals in the beginning which pretty much continues throughout the song!

I've thrown away, I've thrown away again
The pills that make me
I've thrown away, I've thrown away again
The chance, the want to change
I've thrown away, I've thrown away again
Standing all alone
I've thrown away, I've thrown away again

Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
Pulling back the skin
It happens, we're getting older
Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
It's all the same
But in the end, it keeps me coming

I've blown away, I've blown away again
The fear of failing
I've blown away, I've blown away again
The lies that make me sane
I've blown away
The chance to make it right
I want to be
I want to see
I want to make it back to me

Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
Pulling back the skin
It happens, we're getting older
Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
It's all the same
But in the end, it keeps me coming

It's time to face away
A chance to talk and fake some change
To make myself to think that things are better

Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
Pulling back the skin
It happens, we're getting older
Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
It's all the same
But in the end, it keeps me coming

Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
Pulling back the skin
It happens, we're getting older
Eyes wired shut
Running through my brain
It's all the same
But in the end, it keeps me coming

Sticks and Stones by The Zombies

The Zombies are plain BAD ASS in this song! If there catalogue was full of songs like this they could have been more significant today. If a modern band covers this song, The Zombies would be instant geniuses!

This song alone puts them in line with the Beatles and the Stones, but I may be wrong as well. Great walking bass, steady drumming and awesome breakdown guitar solo! :)

People talk about breaking off
Can't let us be
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But talk don't bother me

People talk about breaking off
Scatter up my name
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But I'll never be the same

I've been abused
In my home
I've been abused
I've been abused right from the start

People talk about breaking off
Can't let us be
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But talk don't bother me
Oh, oh, oh

I've been abused
Out of my home
I've been abused
I've been abused right from the start

People talk about breaking off
Can't let us be
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But talk don't bother me
Oh, oh, oh

I've been abused
In my home
I've been abused
I've been abused right from the start

People talk about breaking off
Can't let us be
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But talk don't bother me

Don't Stop Believin' by Journey

I have to admit, it was only recently that i became familiar with this song, particularly when it was used as a background for the Soprano's final scene. And it Journey's new singer being a Filipino (Arnel Pineda), it got curiouser for me.

The song is driven by a strong bass line and piano riff and a powerful vocal. Neal Schlon's guitar work ain't bad either.

Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

We Come Alive by Joey Tempest

This song is the lead-of single for JOey Tempest's debut album, Place to Call Home. To be honest I didn't know anything about Joey Tempest when i bought his album from a CD sale. I took a risk knowing only the fact that "could be" playing a guitar (which i assumed he was really as the cover of the album shows him holding a guitar).

The song is easy going with lots of things happening. Backing vocals are a hit for me! The last part with the guitar solo and the backing vocals is something i won't forget.

Well it's early evening and I'm at your door
Thinking of things to say
It's been a long hard week since I saw you now,
Baby, you're always worth the wait
I feel kinda restless, nervous I guess
But so lucky to be alive
We take the city by the hand
It's our time tonight

We come alive
Yeah, we come alive with the night
We come alive
Yeah, we come alive with the night

You've got your black jeans on
And your worn out shirt
Like the casual girl I know
I'm gonna take you down town to this place I know
Where they play our kind of rock and roll
For a moment I feel when I look in your eyes
That I've found what I'm searchng for
Heaven's right in front of me and I'm
Steppin through the door

We come alive
Yeah, we come alive with the night
We come alive
Yeah, we come alive with the night

Look out!

Well we walk on in and the music's loud
And the lights are way down low
The air fills up with ecstacy
As we dance the whole night through
I love the way we touch and express ourselves
Such a natural way to be
Now I know why the night belongs
To fools like you and me

Like theives we steal each other's time
We have to go back home
Got my arms around you so glad I found you
And it's something I've done on my own
Baby in just a little while we could go our separate ways
But we both know we'd fool ourselves
This night ain't over yet

We come alive
Yeah, we

On My Mind by Damone

Featuring one of my favorite guitar players, Dave Pino, the solo from this song is just plain RAD! I've been waiting for more than 2 years to have a copy of this album and at last i already have one (found from one Philmusic forumer), a diamond in the rough! :)
Legend has it that Dave Pino wrote the whole Damone album, way even before Damone got started, for a girlfriend. He wrote more than 70 songs.

Today I woke and said to me, (wey-ee-ay-oh) 'cause you’re mine,
And then I’d fallen back to sleep and you were all in my mind.
I dreamed that we were flying thousand miles an hour,
So we could get away to be alone for hours.

The phone can ring but I don’t care, (wey-ee-ay-oh) ‘cause you’re mine,
The world can end and that’s okay, (wey-ee-ay-oh) ‘cause you’re mine.
Inside I only care about the one I love,
And you are number one to me, the one I love.

You own my heart and more, ‘till the end of time.
You are the only one who’s ever on my mind.

Tonight we ate and it was love, (wey-ee-ay-oh) and you’re mine,
We danced around like kids in love, (wey-ee-ay-oh) ‘cause you’re mine.
We sang the songs, to which we knew just half the words,
We played Relieveo and scared off all the birds.

You say to me that you are mine, (wey-ee-ay-oh) ‘cause you’re mine,
I let you know that you’re the one, (wey-ee-ay-oh) all the time.
So now the night will end ‘cause my dad’s on the prowl,
He paged a thousand times tonight for every hour.

You own my heart and more, ‘till the end of time.
You are the only one who’s ever on my mind.
You own my heart and more, ‘till the end of time.
You are the only one who’s ever on my mind.

[Guitar solo]

You own my heart and more, ‘till the end of time.
You are the only one who’s ever on my mind.
You own my heart and more, ‘till the end of time.
You are the only one forever on my mind

That's What You Get by Paramore

Saw this on MTV and it instantly won me over... was it because of the pretty vocalist, her red hair and green jacket? maybe but overall this song is WAY OK!by my standards.

The intro is energetic and seems like a breakdown of a song. I also love the dynamic of the shifting of the cadence by the 2nd verse. Honestly I wasn't able to catch the lyrics of the song on 1st listen, but was instantly captured by the line "that's what you get when you let your heart win" and the promise and disappointment behind those words.

No sir, well I don't wanna be the blame, not anymore
It's your turn, so take a seat we're settling the final score
And why do we like to hurt, so much?

I can't decide, You have made it harder just to go on
And why, all the possibilities where I was wrong

That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

I wonder, how am I supposed to feel when you're not here
Cause I burned every bridge I ever built when you were here
I still try holding onto silly things, I never learn
Oh why, all the possibilities I'm sure you've heard

That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating (beating)
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

Hey, make your way to me, to me
And I'll always be just so inviting
If I ever start to think straight
This heart will start a riot in meLet's start, start, hey!

Why do we like to hurt so much?
Oh why do we like to hurt so much?

That's what you get when you let your heart win! whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
That's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa
Now I can't trust myself with anything but this
And that's what you get when you let your heart win, whoa

Uncle John's Band by The Grateful Dead

I was really curious how The Grateful Dead sounded. My father has hyped this band and it's heavily bearded guitar-toting icon, Jerry Garcia.

So during one of my audio CD binges I bought several Dead albums. Some consisted of highly trippy sounds, which one magazine has labeled something you can appreciate only when you're on a high, similar to the state the Dead recorded them.

Uncle John's Band is probably one of their most laid back songs, in fact it sounds something that the Beatles could have wrote themselves. Vocal harmonies are a top notch, Rhythm and Lead guitars at sync and the bass lines are suave!

Well the first days are the hardest days,
Don't you worry any more, 'Cause when life looks like easy
Street, there is danger at your door.
Think this through with me, let me know your mind.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, is are you kind?

It's a buck dancer's choice my friend; better take my advice.
You know all the rules by now and the fire from ice.
Will you come with me, won't you come with me?
Woh - oh, what I want to know, will you come with me?

Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like?
Their walls are built of cannonballs, their motto is
Don't tread on me. Come hear Uncle John's Band playing
To the tide, come with me, or go alone.

It's the same story the crow told me;
It's the only one he knows.
Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go.
Ain't no time to hate, barely time to wait,
Woh - oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?

I live in a silver mine and I call it Beggar's Tomb;
I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune
Anybody's choice, I can hear your voice.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?

Come hear the Uncle John's Band by the riverside
Got some things to talk about, here beside the risin' tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide,
Come on along, or go alone,
He's come to take his children home.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?

Come hear Uncle John's Band by the riverside,
Got some things to talk about here beside the risin' tide.
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide, come on
Along or go alone, he's come to take his children home

Crapshoot by Perpertual Groove

What can you get for 130pesos? you can get a premium burger or 3 cheeseburgers or you can buy a SPAM and a loaf of bread and eat your heart out!

Recently for 130 pesos I got a magazine from Booksale, Relix, which comes with a free Audio CD. I didn't know then that one of the songs included in the mag would be my companion on an unfortunate journey to Malabon.

If I was a judge-the-book-by-its-over-type I would have just pressed forward and not bother with this song. Not that I'm not a judge-the-book-by-its-over-type but I was impressed by this song early on. The early pounding of the drums and straddling bass easily made it's mark but what impressed me was the guitar work.... it's like art and noise rolled into one.

Step up to the passline
Come on and make your bets
You think you know so much honey
You aint seen nothing yet

The way you turn your back on things
Now you must lie in your bed
The way you turn your back on things
I wont soon forget

Cause i cant see anymore of me
taken part in this sad sad deal
As they say what will be will be
this time has never felt so real

Step up to the passline
Come on and make your bets
You think you got a lock on so much money
You aint won nothing yet

This bed shes yours to lie in
Now that youve made your bets
The way you turn your back on things i wont soo forget

Cause i cant see anymore of me
taken part in this sad sad deal
As they say what will be will be
Wouldnt you agree this time has never felt so real

Like I Love You by Justin Timberlake

This song is easy to love and something that puts Justin Timberlake in the realm of an 80's Michael Jackson. The song starts out with a speech backed by rhythmic strumming of a guitar. By the time the song gets to chorus electronic instruments courtesy of NERD pumps in.

Every time i here this song I always think about playing it live. I even had the audacity to propose to play this during college knowing the fact that it's just an acoustic guitar that's driving it really... too bad that none of my classmates doesn't know how to dance to make any performances of this song passable.

Just something about you
The way I'm lookin at you whatever
You keep lookin at me
You gettin scared now, right?
Don't fear me baby, it's just destiny
It feel good right?
Listen

I kind of noticed, from one night
From the club, your front face
It's kind of weird to me
Since you're so fine
If it's up to me your face will change

If you smiling, that should set the tone
Just be limber
If you let go, the music should groove your bones
Just remember
Sing this song with me

Ain't nobody love you like I love you
You're a good girl and that's what makes me trust ya
Late at night, I talk to you
You will know the difference when I touch you

People are so phony
Nosy coz they're lonely
Aren't you sick of the same thing?
They say so and so was dating
Love you or they're hatin
When it doesn't matter anyway
Coz we're here tonight

If you smiling, that should set the tone
Just be limber baby
If you let go, the music should groove your bones
Baby just remember
Sing this song with me

Ain't nobody love you like I love you
You're a good girl and that's what makes me trust ya
Late at night, I talk to you
You will know the difference when I touch you

Yeah, you know I can make ya happy
I could change your life
If you give me that chance
To be your man
I won't let you down baby
If you give me that chance
To be your man
Here baby, put on my jacket
And then ...

Maybe we'll fly tonight (I just wanna love you baby)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Maybe we'll fly tonight (I just wanna love you baby)
Girl ...

RAP

Ma, what chu wanna do?
I'm in front of you
Grab a friend, see I can have fun with two
Or me and you put on a stage show
And the mall kids, that's how to change low
From them you heard "wow, it's the same glow"
Look at me, I say "yeah, it's the same dough"
We the same type, you my air of life
You have sleepin in the same bed, er'night

Go rock with me, you deserve the best
Take a few shots
Let it burn in your chest
We could ride down
Pumpin N.E.R.D. in the deck
Funny how a few words turn into sex
Play this free, joint called "brain"
Ma, take a hint
Make me suerve in the lane
The name Malicious
And I burn every track
Clipse and J. Timberlake
Now how heavy is that?

Maybe we'll fly tonight (I just wanna love you baby)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Maybe we'll fly tonight (I just wanna love you baby)
Girl ...

Ain't nobody love you like I love you
You're a good girl and that's what makes me trust ya
Late at night, I talk to you
You will know the difference when I touch you

Break this down

You know, I used to dream about this when I was a
little boy
I never thought it would end up this way, (drums)
It's kind of special right? yeah
You know, you think about it
Sometimes people just destined
Destined to do what they do
And that's what it is
Now everybody dance.

Tadhana by Moonstar 88

I just like this song from the intro to the palm muted verse guitar chords and the steady bass and the way the drums is pounded in the chorus. I also love the guitar fills.

This song has a nice video too. One of my favorite OPM songs that didn't need growing on me.

Nalimutan mo na ba
Ang daang pinagmulan
Ng saya sa iyong ngiti
Habang tayo’y magkatabi

Nais kong hawakan ang
Ang ‘yong kamay, oh ka’y gaan
‘Ni aninong nahuhuli
Nahihiya sa’yong lambing

Tadhana bakit ka nakita
Tadhana bakit ka nakita

Ka’y bait ng iyong tingin
Ka’y lamig ng iyong tinig
Kasalanan ko man nangyari
Ang hindi kausapin

Nalimutan mo na ba
Ang daang pinagmulan
Ng saya sa iyong ngiti
Habang tayo’y magkatabi

Tadhana bakit ka nakita
Tadhana bakit ka nakita

‘Di na mtitiis, luhang babalik
‘Di na mtitiis, luhang babalik

Tadhana bakit ka nakita
Tadhana bakit ka nakita

Nalimutan mo na ba
Ang daang pinagmulan
Ng saya sa iyong ngiti
Habang tayo’y magkatabi

Tadhana bakit ka nakita
Tadhana bakit ka nakita
Tadhana oohhh…
Tadhana oohhh…

Alive and Kickin' by Mr. Big

How to great an awesome and timeless rock song? Start out with a bluesy riff.... then just rock out the remaining 5minutes!

Never having the opportunity to listen to Mr. Big's 1st 2 albums during the 90's, it's only recently that i had the chance to appreciate one of the band's anthemic songs.

Alive and Kickin' never fails to start-me up on days when i feel down. We have a purpose when we wake up each day and I hope i do achieve something significant and connect to people.

Seeing Richie Koetzen perform a loyal version of this song and carrying Paul Gilbert's mantle is no easy feat! It's also fun to to Billy Sheehan's bass line, catching up to and complementing Paul's licks. You'll better appreciate Sheehan's contribution to Mr. Big's music once you see him perform songs live, he's a showboat if there's one with his huge neck bends and attempts at bass guitar feedback!

Richie's and Billy's show chemistry is a lot better though. Paul Gilbert just didn't like Billy that much I guess. Ego's bumping and Mr. Big disintegrating
:(

Black top blazin', hometown fadin'
Out of sight in the rear view mirror
Stevie Ray blasting on the radio
As I slam it into higher gear

My baby's by my side, tears in her eyes
Writing a goodbye letter
Sayin' Johny and me are running' wild and runnin' free
Just like you did momma

Don't know where we're goin'
But when we get there we'll know
We're gonna follow the code of the road

Jump into the fire
Keep our love alive and kickin'
Down the dorr, it's what we're livin' for
Rockin' side by side
Keep your love alive and kickin'

We got everything we own in the trunk and on the roof
And she's got baby sitting money in her pocket
We're drivin' fast, ain't no looking back
We're flyin' through the desert like a rocket

White line widin' up interstate five
The road goes on forever
And it does't matter where it's gonna take us
As long as we're together

We're talkin' our chances
Gonna do it our way
Pedal to the metal shooting down the highway

Jump into the fire
Keep our love alive and kickin'
Down the walls, that's when
Freedom calls
Rockin' side by side
Keep your love alive and kickin'

When Did Your Heart Go Missing? by Rooney

Main reason why I try to gamble on unfamiliar artists is because I just love the feeling of being surprised when encountering good catchy songs such as this. I have a copy of Rooney's first album but it never really grew on me and it didn't have any song that I would consider as somewhat significant (at least in this life of mine)

But lo and behold, I grabbed a copy of Paste Magazine from Bookstore for 130 pesos (it's quite hefty as they can go for as low as 50 pesos) and had a chance of listening to this song.

It has somewhat of an 80's feel (where they using synths?!?). I have an allegiance with this kind of love songs, wherein it's somewhat melancholic, not sad. It doesn't have the feeling of surrender rather confidence that everything after this song is rocked out.

Solid bass line, steady drum parts, great danceable funky guitar riff and a story to tell
that's the recipe.

Love don't come so easily
This doesn't have to end in tragedy
I have you and you have me
We're one in a million
Why can't you see?

I'm waiting, waiting for nothing
You're leaving, leaving me hanging
When did your heart go missing?
When did your heart go missing?
I treat you like a princess
But your life is just one big mess
When did your heart go missing?
When did your heart go missing, yeah?

I meant every word I said
I never was lying when we tucked in bed
I'm retracing every step in my head
What did I miss back then?
I was so, so misled

I'm waiting, waiting for nothing
You're leaving, leaving me hanging
When did your heart go missing?
When did your heart go missing?
I treat you like a princess
But your life is just one big mess
When did your heart go missing?
When did your heart go missing?

I don't understand
How could you forget what we had,
It's so wrong

I'm waiting, waiting for nothing
You're leaving, leaving me hanging
When did your heart go missing?
When did your heart go missing?
I treat you like a princess
But your life is just one big mess
When did your heart go missing?
When did your heart go missing?

Yeah!

Things were so good
We had a little dream
A little dream together
Buy a house, settle down, do our thing
But you disappeared on me
And your heart, your heart went missin'
I don't know how to find it
I don't know where it is
I don't know where your heart went
It was here just the other day
Now it's gone
I'm gonna call the police
Call the investigator, the heart investigator

Highwire by Gin Blossoms

This is not one of Gin Blossom's famous songs. I was listening to the Congratulations... I'm Sorry album when my liking for this song just flashed! The intro had a great combination of drum fills, guitar riffs and nicely timed bass presence.

The song is simply laid out though honestly i can't figure what this song's all about, but it's really rocking and would like to play this song with a band sometime!

I wanna take you so far
But they don't want to let us out
But they do, they do, they do

I don't wanna walk on that highwire
They ain't gonna let us down
But they do, they do, they do

What I could never believe in
I was never really even
And I forgot about the cost
And then I got lost, I got lost, I got lost, I got lost

Didn't really wanna live it over
Or even wanna live it down
But I do, I do, I do

What I could never believe in
I was never really even
And I forgot about the cost
And then I got lost, I got lost, I got lost, I got lost

Didn't really wanna live it over
Or even wanna live it down
But I do, I do, I do...
