Mukhang Pera By The Youth

I have totally forgotten about this song and had the chance to listen to it again when I rode my officemate's car on the way to a team outing activity. It's too bad that the Youth met it's demise early on it's career. The song has great and thought provoking lyrics, great guitar work and the bass lines are top notch. It's one of the songs that really brings me back to those days.

Mukhang pera

Mundo'y umiikot sa pera
Mukha kang pera
Kamukha ka ni Ninoy
Mukha kang pera

Kamukha ka ni Ninoy
Kamukha ka ni Ninoy

Take a Picture by Filter

Me and Astrud were spending our weekend on Lilom Resort in Batangas. The place was picturesque and as I was going to go for a bathroom break, this song suddenly came to my head. I had this love and hate thing about taking pictures. I believe there are moments that are meant to live in our heads and not immortalized by pictures. That's just the way I really am I guess.

Awake on my airplane
Awake on my airplane
My skin is bare
My skin is theirs
Awake on my airplane
Awake on my airplane
My skin is bare
My skin is theirs

I feel like newborn
And I feel like a newborn
Awake on my airplane
Awake on my airplane
I feel so real

Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember - yeah

I don't believe in
I don't believe in your sanctity your prophecy
I don't believe inI don't believe in sanctity or hypocrisy
Can everyone agree that no one should be left alone
Can everyone agree that they should not be left alone
And I feel like a newborn
And I feel like a newborn (kicking and screaming)

Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember - yeah

Hey dad what do you think about your son now?
Hey dad what do you think about your son now?

Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember
Could you take my picture
Cause I won't remember - yeah

Seasons by Chris Cornell

I've recently re-discovered Chris Cornell and increased my appreciation for this wonderful vocalist. The reason was his part in the Pearl Jam documentary, PJ20, in which he appeared speaking in park primarily as one of the key figures in the Seattle/Grunge movement during the early 90s.

I actually saw a few months back the Singles movie on whose soundtrack this song appears, but that rekindled appreciation for another artist (specifically Paul Westerberg).

This is, however, my first time appreciating this song. I'm just amazed on how beautiful it is considering the fact it just has an acoustic guitar and Cornell's voice.

Summer nights and long warm days
Are stolen as the old moon falls
My mirror shows another face
Another place to hide it all
Another place to hide it all

And I'm lost, behind
The words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by

Sleeping with a full moon blanket
Sand and feathers for my head
Dreams have never been the answer
And dreams have never made my bed
Dreams have never made my bed

And I'm lost, behind
The words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by

Now I want to fly above the storm
But you can't grow feathers in the rain
And the naked floor is cold as hell
This naked floor reminds me
Oh the naked floor reminds me

And I'm lost, behind
Words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by

If I should be short on words
And long on things to say
Could you crawl into my world
And take me worlds away
Should I be beside myself
And not even stay

And I'm lost, behind
Words I'll never find
And I'm left behind
As seasons roll on by

Dandy Life by Collective Soul

I believe this is song may stand as somewhat unique in the Collective Soul library, primarily because it was sang by Ross Childress instead of default vocalist Ed Roland. Roland's voice can still be heard though doing backup duties on the chorus part.

One thing I like about the song is that it seems to be simple, starting with what seems to be a electronic drum back beat and jangling of guitars. This is one of my favorites among the Collective Soul catalog.

Took a walk to a caution scene
I guess I crossed the line somehow
And if I lost some of your hope
I'm sorry for the folly was all mine

And I don't ever really understand
All the things we say
But I try to anyway
Anyhow

For what's in a day of a dandy life
For what's in a day of this dandy life
Everything, Everything, Everything

Hangin' on every way
My social butterfly
Everyone wants to be loved
Loved in their own way

I can say I spent the night
On the telephone inside, When you said that
every single one of us can find a happy face
So why don't you go try
To Try anyway

And I suppose I was born yesterday
'Cause I never thought of things quite
In that way at all
and in that way

For what's in a day of a dandy life
For what's in a day of this dandy life
Everything, Everything, Everything

Hangin' on every way
My social butterfly
Everyone wants to be loved
Loved in their own way, way

Everyone wants to be loved
Loved in their own way, way
Hangin' on every way

Kabataan Para Sa Kinabukasan by Francis M

I rediscovered this song while watching Eat Bulaga's episode last saturday. They featured kids whom they granted scholarships back in 2009 and graduate this year 2013. Gloc 9 and Michael V sang this song, both a  tribute and a challenge to the Filipino Youth.

I'm not sure as to what the state of rap is in the Philippines nowadays. I guess we have good rappers now, Loonie and Abra are 2 people that come to mind. Gloc 9 is another, But no one still comes close to Francis M. Di kailangan ni FrancisM mag-mura... Ikaw ang mapapamura sa mga lyrics nya.

Kapag ang tao'y masipag, tumatatag ang buhay,
Nagsusumikap kahit mahirap, ialay
Ang pawis sa kinabukasan,
at nang tayong lahat ma-biyayaan,
At huwag kalilimutan
At laging tandaan ang hagdang
paitaas ang siyang laging tahakin
Anuman ang iyong gawin,
kahit yun at yun din, gawin mong magaling at sa
puso'y manggaling

Nasa palad mo ang kapalaran,
kabataan para sa kinabukasan
Oras ay ginto, gamitin ng mahusay,
dahil and oras ay walang hinihintay

Peace - Kapayapaan
Nature - Kalikasan
Children - Kabataan

Ang kabataan, kalikasan para sa kinabukasan,
Iwasan ang pagkakamaling ating naranasan
Oras nang magtubos,
daigdig natin 'wag sayangin,
'wag hayaang maubos
Oras na para kumilos (Make a stand)
Magkapit bisig para sa daigdig (Hand in hand)
Mulat na kabataan ang sagot,
'wag masasangkot sa ipinagbabawal na gamot
Kundi'y gamitin ang talino,
maging tunay na bayani, makabagong Pilipino

Sulong kabataan, ipakita ang lakas,
tunay at wagas na pag-asa ng bukas

Nasa palad mo ang kapalaran
kabataan para sa kinabukasan
Oras ay ginto, gamitin ng mahusay,
Dahil and oras ay walang hinihintay

Coffee & TV by Blur

I saw the video for this when I was in high school which featured a milk cartoon. I liked how the song sounded in general, but it was only yesterday when I got to read the lyrics to the song and have found a new level of appreciation for it.

Being an Oasis fan, I now appreciate Blur's music. I've come to realize that, maybe, Noel Gallagher's spite of Blur came from the fact that Blur represented a different kind of music, music that was also as good if not better than Oasis's.

Do you feel like a chain store?
Practically floored
One of many zeros
Kicked around bored
Your ears are full but your empty
Holding out your heart
To people who never really
Care how you are

So give me Coffee and TV
History
I've seen so much
I'm goin blind
And i'm braindead virtually
Sociability
It's hard enough for me
Take me away from this big bad world
And agree to marry me
So we can start all over again

Do you go to the country
It isn't very far
There's people there who will hurt you
Cos of who you are

Your ears are full of the language
There's wisdom there you're sure
'Til the words start slurring
And you can't find the door

So give me Coffee and TV
History
I've seen so much
I'm goin blind
And i'm braindead virtually
Sociability
It's hard enough for me
Take me away from this big bad world
And agree to marry me
So we can start all over again

So give me Coffee and TV
History
I've seen so much
I'm goin blind
And i'm braindead virtually
Sociability
It's hard enough for me
Take me away from this big bad world
And agree to marry me
So we can start all over again

Oh...we could start over again
Oh...we could start over again
Oh...we could start over again
Oh...we could start over again

Faithfull by Pearl Jam

After 15 years, Yield may now be my favorite Pearl Jam album. This after viewing the documentary Pearl Jam: Twenty. It's a must view for any fan, diehard or casual. It helped me understand what's are the factors , experiences and circumstances that made Pearl Jam that band it is today comparing it to the band of the 1st two albums.

After viewing the documentary, this is the song that I most remember from it. Instead of hearing"mediocrity" and "soft", I now hear the grit, truth and emotion in this Pearl Jam song.

Plaque on the wall says that no one's slept here
It's rare to come upon a bridge that has not been around
Or been stepped on
Whatever the notions, we laced in our prayers
The man upstairs is used to all of this noise
I'm through with screaming
And echoes nobody hears, it goes, it goes, it goes
Like echoes nobody hears, it goes, it goes, it goes
We're faithful, we all believe, we all believe it
And echoes nobody hears, it goes, it goes, it goes
We're faithful, we all believe, we all believe it
So faithful, we all believe, we all believe it

M.Y.T.H. is…
Belief in the game controls that keeps us in a box of fear
We never listen
Voice inside so drowned out
Drowned you are, you are, you are everything
And everything is you
Me you, you me, it's all related
What's a boy to do?
Just be darling and I will be too
Faithful to you
