And Your Bird Can Sing by The Beatles

With my mp3 player on Auto-pilot, it reacquaints me with this Beatles classic from the ground braking Revolver album.

George Harrison's guitar just roars and screams, powerful vocal harmonies abound as with other Beatles songs. And as usual Paul Mccartney's bass playing is steady.

I remember looking at the cover of Revolver and not being able to understand what the hell it was about. I even though it was a mountain with Beatle's faces on it. When i got older, i realized, that yes there are faces on it, but it was not definitely shaped like a mountain

You tell me that you've got everything you want
And your bird can sing
But you don't get me, you don't get me

You say you've seen seven wonders and your bird is green
But you can't see me, you can't see me

When your prized possessions start to weigh you down
Look in my direction, I'll be round, I'll be round

When your bird is broken will it bring you down
You may be awoken, I'll be round, I'll be round

You tell me that you've heard every sound there is
And your bird can swing
But you can't hear me, you can't hear me

Harana by The Eraserheads

To be honest, it's just recently that I became familiar with this song. I pretty much got lost track of eheads songs after the 3 classic albums and a so-called Christmas album.

I'm pretty much amused with the catchy lyrics, overall band presence and of course the synth parts! (I've been interested in synths recently). I like the ending part where Ely goes thru cyclical "harana" chanting. Very powerful!

Thanks to the rarely heard function in my MP3 for getting me acquainted with this song.

Wag nang malumbay
Ang pag-ibig ko ay tunay
Sabihin man ng 'yung nanay na
Wala akong silbi sa buhay...tunay

Kung ako ang papipiliin
Ay nag amsterdam na ako
Wag mo lang akong pipilitin
Na wag gumamit ng gaheto

Buksan mo ang yung bintana
Dungawin ang humahanga
Bitbit ko ang gitara
At handa ng mang-harana

Na..na..na.naaaaa..

Wag nang malumbay
Ang pag-ibig ko ay tunay
Sabihin man nang yung kapit bahay
Na di ako nag susuklay
Oh..tunay

Kung ako ang papipiliin
Ay nag congressman na ako
Wag mo lang akong pipilitin na
Isuli ang bayad nyo

Tumutunog ang kampana
Hali ka na sa dambana
Bitbit ko ang guitara at handa ng
Mang harana

(harana) Na..na..na..naaaaaaaa

I Would Die 4 U by Prince

This song comes of the ending of the movie Purple Rain. The song is just plain awesome and caps off a movie which i found "feel good" if not inspiring. I like the part when he starts the song with this weird looking dance, and of course the hand gestures while singing "i would die 4 u".

Overall, this captures Prince at his finest during the 80's.

I'm not a woman
I'm not a man
I am something that youll never understand

I'll never beat u
I'll never lie
And if youre evil I'll forgive u by and by

U - I would die 4 u, yeah
Darling if u want me 2
U - I would die 4 u

I'm not your lover
I'm not your friend
I am something that youll never comprehend

No need 2 worry
No need 2 cry
I'm your messiah and youre the reason why

cuz u - I would die 4 u, yeah
Darling if u want me 2
U - I would die 4 u

You're just a sinner I am told
Be your fire when you're cold
Make u happy when you're sad
Make u good when u are bad

I'm not a human
I am a dove
I'm your conscious
I am love
All I really need is 2 know that
U believe

Yeah, I would die 4 u, yeah
Darling if u want me 2
U - I would die 4 u

Yeah, say one more time

U - I would die 4 u
Darling if u want me 2
U - I would die 4 u
2 3 4 u

I would die 4 u
I would die 4 u
U - I would die 4 u
U - I would die 4 u

Iisang Bangka Tayo by The Dawn

I was able to see The Dawn just recently but they were not without Francis Reyes. I was not disappointed though, JB Leonor kept on pounding. Before there set started, I told my office friends Jon Ray and Deo, that i won't be able to take the music sitting down.

They digged down some classics for the set and several songs from their new album Sound the Alarm.

To be honest, i would still preferred to have seen Francis Reyes-equipped The Dawn, especially for this song. I just love the vocal harmonies and fierce guitar playing. The re-recorded version that appears in the Tulad ng Dati album, modernizes the classic version, which is able to stand on its own.
The Dawn is a classic band that i wished i admired more... i admired earlier.

Kay dilim at kay ginaw sa kalawakan ng dagat
Ubod lakas kung humiyaw ang galit na hanging habagat
Ngunit buo ang puso mo’ng ang daluyong ay sugurin
Magkasama tayong katahimika’y hahanapin

Saan ang tungo mo mahal ko’ng kaibigan
Saan sasadyain hanap mo’ng katahimikan
Basta’t tayo’y magkasama laging sasabayan kita
Pinagsamaha’y nasa puso kaibigan kabarkada

Ating liliparin, may harang mang sibat
Ating tatawirin, daluyong ng dagat
Basta’t kasama mo ako, iisang bangka tayo
Anuman ang mithiin ay makakamtan natin
