Bent by Matchbox Twenty

I was not much of a fan of this song... but wow... I was really impressed when they performed this on VH1 Story Tellers. Maybe because around that time i was pretty much listening to Nu Metal/Rap stuff that I denied in my head that Matchbox 20 is an impressive band. I can't also deny the visual factor of seeing them on a live setting.

I bought the Mad Season album at a sale for 100 pesos. I was familiar with the band's singles but i never expected the album to be that good. Matchbox Twenty's definitely one of those bands that you should not settle for a greatest hits album as they have a solid discography.

If I fall along the way
Pick me up and dust me off
And if I get too tired to make it
Be my breath so I can walk

If I need some other love
Give me more than I can stand
And when my smile gets old and faded
Wait around I'll smile again

Shouldn't be so complicated
Just hold me and then
Just hold me again

Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together

You're breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent

If I couldn't sleep could you sleep
Could you paint me better off
Could you sympathize with my needs
I know you think I need a lot

I started out clean but I'm jaded
Just phoning it in
Just breaking the skin

Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together

You're breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent

Start bending me
It's never enough
I feel all your pieces

Start bending me
Keep bending me until I'm completely broken in

Shouldn't be so complicated
Just touch me and then
Just touch me again

Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together

You're breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent

Can you help me I'm bent
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together

You're breaking me in
And this is how we will end
With you and me bent

One of These Days by Michelle Branch

One of my favorite Michelle Branch songs. I admire it's simplicity and the technicality of the programming sounds created by John Shanks. The combination of piano notes and programmed music really struck me.

I included this song on the compilation CD I specifically made for this girl (the only girl I ever made a mixtape of). I remember hearing this song on a bus ride and thinking that "F@CK! they released it as a single". I was hoping that they don't release it as a single as I wanted it to be those songs that are not that available to the masses, making my mixtape "Baduy".

I didn't notice
But I didn't care
I tried being honest
But that left me nowhere

I watched the station
Saw the bus pulling through
And I don't mind saying
A part of me left with you

So one of these days
I won't be afraid of staying with you
I hope and I pray
Waiting to find a way back to you
'Cause that's where I'm home…oh

Did I make you nervous?
Did I ask for too much?
Was I not deserving one second of your touch?

And one of these days
I won't be afraid of staying with you
I hope and I pray
Waiting to find a way back to you
'Cause that's where I'm home… oh

What would you do if I could have you?
oh if I could
I'd let you feel everything I'm thinking
Wouldn't that be nice?

And one of these days
I won't be afraid of staying with you

Note: The girl i gave the CD to may not have listened to the said compilation.I wouldn't blame her... i was really weird. If you want a copy just give me a hit.

She's the One by Robbie Williams

I was never a big fan of Robbie Williams, dismissing him for an attention-craving former member of the UK Boy Band Take That.

When I saw a copy of his Greatest Hits album and checking out the tracks, I begin realize that he has had a string of good songs to his credit, some of which was somehow memorable to me. The music video for Rock DJ was showing on one of the screens of a music store in Ever Gotesco Mall in CM Recto during one of my visits (probably to accompany Dris in one of his shoe shopping forays)... my memory of "Strong" is linked to one of my best friends Roman.

"She's the One" is probably my favorite Robbie Williams single, as I tend to side with the romantic. The music video also shows Robbie Williams as an ice skater.

Searching for the the wikipedia entry for this song, I found out that this is actually not a Robbie Williams original.... Better get a move on trying to search for the original version. :)

I was her she was me
We were one we were free
And if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

We were young we were wrong
We were fine all along
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
When you get to where you wanna go
And you know the things you wanna know
You're smiling
When you said what you wanna say
And you know the way you wanna play
You'll be so high you'll be flying

Though the sea will be strong
I know we'll carry on
Cause if there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

When you get to where you wanna go
And you know the things you wanna know
You're smiling

When you said what you wanna say
And you know the way you wanna say it
You'll be so high you'll be flying

I was her she was me
We were one we were free
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
Yeah she's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one
She's the one

If there's somebody calling me on
She's the one

Soak Up the Sun by Sheryl Crow

I really enjoyed Sheryl Crow's C'mon C'mon album. This is one one of the girl-albums I enjoyed without thinking of how cute the girl is... hey i'm beginning to musically grow-up and Soak Up the Sun was the lead-off single.

Soak Up The Sun has the 'beach vibe' going. It sounds simple enough that you can play it on an acoustic guitar but it also has complicated parts as well. I love the weird sounds that comes before the song's main riff and the searing siren like sound (try to listen very hard)

The song was co-written and co-produced with long time collaborator Jeff Trott. I've always been curious how are the dynamics when song-writing partners work.

Liz Phair also does backing vocals as mentioned in the liner notes :)

My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV

I don't have digital
I don't have diddly squat
It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun

I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it takes
To win me some of your love
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe i am crazy too

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun

I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me
Don't have no master suite
I'm still the king of me
You have a fancy ride, but baby
I'm the one who has the key
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on.

Jealous Again by the Black Crowes

Hearing Jealous Again was like a kick in the face... seriously! Starting with a bluesy riff then hitting off with synchronize intro of drum beats and piano notes this song expanded my music horizon like no other, opening my mind to blues (like what Kenny Wayne Shepherd did) and southern rock.

The song has a cocky vibe to it... some sense of bravado... why i don't know. That's just how i see it.

Cheat the odds that made you
Brave to try to gamble at times
Well I feelin' dirty laundry
Sending sickness on down the line

Tell you why!

Cause Im jealous, jealous again
Thought it time I let you in
Yeah, Im jealous, jealous again
Got no time, baby

Always drunk on sunday
Try'n to feel like I'm coming home
Smell the gasoline burning
Boys out feeling nervous and cold

Cause Im jealous, jealous again
Thought it time I let you in
Yeah, Im jealous, jealous again
Got no time, baby

Stop, understand me
I ain't afraid of losing face
Stop, understand me
I ain't afraid of ever losing faith in you

Never felt like smiling
Sugar wanna kill me yet
Find me loose lipped and laughing
Singing songs ain't got no regrets

Cause Im jealous, jealous again
Thought it time I let you in
Yeah, Im jealous, jealous again
Got no time, baby

Stop, understand me
I ain't afraid of losing face
Stop, understand me
I ain't afraid of ever losing faith in you

Don't you think I want to
Don't you think I would
Don't you think Id tell you baby
If I only could
Am I acting crazy
Am I just too proud
Am I just plain lazy
Am i, am i, am i, ever

Preacher's Daughter by The Refreshments

Well i had a hard pressed as to what song I should write about this band, The Refreshments. Coming from Arizona, USA, the same breeding ground for the Gin Blossoms (you would actually hear some similarities between the two) my encounter with the band started buying from a MCA CD music sale at Ortigas. There was a section marked as "library copies" and they we're rather priced cheap, 100pesos, and I was in a mood of trying out music I was unfamiliar with.

I was able to grab a promotional copy of the Bottle & Fresh Horses. I was not familiar with the music and i took the chance of buying the album based on the band's name and the cover art. This turned out to be the best steals of my life.

Preacher's Daughter is very Gin Blossomy. It also has an angry edge in it with the vocalist's (Roger Clyne) emotion poured in! Damnit! This song's just off the hook! The guitar let's the drum beats breathe... and also has a great build-up to the guitar solo!

The album inspired me to take risks at the unknown... if only i could apply that in other parts of my so-called life.

I was born in the thirsty eath
Showed up in Tuscon, fresh out of Leavenworth
Did my time on stale bread and dirty water
Nobody told me that the lady was preacher's daughter

Yeah how her arms would hold me
When we kissed, she never told me
Lamb for a slaughter
Yeah, she's my preacher's daughter

Cut loose from my incarceration
Paid a visit to her Daddy's congregation
Welcome home she said, your lookin' good too
Meet my new husband, he's the sheriff who arrested you

Yeah how her arms would holds me
When we kissed, she never told me
Lamb for a slaughter
'Cause She's my preacher's daughter

YEAH

So I said my congratulations
Before I lost myself to my infatuations
I stole a kiss or two just havin' fun again
Sheriff don't like it
Now I'm back on the run again

How her arms would hold me
When we kissed, she never told me
Lamb for a slaughter
Like the desert needs its water
Give me back my preacher's daughter
Preacher's daughter
Preacher's daughter
Preacher's daughter
YEAH

Beautiful by Marvelous 3

Fronted by Butch Walker, Marvelous 3 was never a huge success but it they surely rock! Any easy listening rocker would appreciate their music. Combining distorted guitars, melodic hooks and lyrics confessing self-pity... they're just my kind of band... singing songs that can be used for partying and similar to the music that I would like to write for myself.

This song is right up my alley. It follows the classic theme of boy loves girl, girl loves some baddie and boy can't do nothing about it, well he has this song to show for it.

Another unrequited-love love song to add in my library.

I don't know, I don't care
If I see you, everywhere
It's gonna hurt, either way
When he looks at other girls when you look away

Don't wash your hair, it's too early
Don't wash your mind if it's dirty
I wouldn't change a thing about you cause

You look like you, and that's just beautiful,
you smell like you and that's just beautiful
You feel like you and that feels beautiful
The only ugly thing about it, is that you're not mine

Its all the same, he's one of those
He doesn't like your madonna nose
A little cut, no one will tell
I really wish you'd tell him he should go to hell

You look like you, and that's just beautiful,
you smell like you and that's just beautiful
You feel like you and that feels beautiful
The only ugly thing about it, is that you're not mine

I know you can't take it, you try so hard to fake it
You're never gonna leave it alone

Everlong by Foo Fighters

I was first mystified by the Foo Fighters because of Dave Grohl. Famous for being the drummer of Nirvana, it's surprising to see him fronting his own band, singing and playing guitar. He was one my of 1st musical idols (the others being Noel Gallagher and later Rico Blanco) for the sheer fact that he wrote most of the songs for Foo Fighters.

In The Colour and the Shape, Grohl played guitar, sang the vocals and did the drum parts. I was amazed of how someone can do all of this things and how I wished I was the same. I remember reading in the Time Magazine (we had a subscription then) that the band even tried to be "intelligent" with the spelling of "colour" in the albums title. The Colour and the Shape was one of my favorite albums during HS.

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breathe out
So I could breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

When You're Gone by Richard Marx

It's easy to dismiss Richard Marx's music especially if you're very discriminatory. Yes he has sappy love songs that most of us love to hate. Richard Marx is my guilty pleasure.

I remember commuting from Eastwood to Makati on a "kolorum" van and it the speakers where churning out melodic rock songs. Only halfway through the album that I noticed that it was Richard Marx when one of his signature love songs popped out of the mix. Right then and there... I found some respect for Richard Marx.

When I came across his "My Own Best Enemy" album on the bargain bin, I hesitated to buy it, as I cringe on the idea of an album full of sappy love songs... then I remember the fortunate commute. I asked the sales lady if I can test out some of the CDs, never did I regret buying this album... "all killer, no filler" is the term that comes to mind.

Well look at me, the guy who's got it all
Tryin' to read my own writing on the wall
Not happy 'til the sadness comes
To keep me company
Oh, but what becomes of fools who love like me

Who's gonna dry my tears
When I'm crying?
Who's gonna hold my hand
When I'm dying?
Who's gonna set me right when
Everything is wrong
Who's gonna love me
When you're gone?

Sure as winter goes and comes around again
I will be my own undoing in the end
I'll find the answers I've been searching for
In your goodbye kiss
'Cause I don't deserve you and you don't deserve this

Who's gonna dry my tears
When I'm crying?
And who's gonna hold my hand
When I'm dying?
Who's gonna set me right when
Everything is wrong
Yeah, who's gonna love me
When you're gone?

Never happy 'til the darkness comes
And rains down on me
Down on me

And who's gonna dry my tears
When I'm crying?
And who's gonna hold my hand
When I'm dying?
Who's gonna set me right when
Everything is wrong
Who's gonna love me
When you're gone?

Who's gonna love me when you're gone?
Baby when you're gone
Yeah, who's gonna love me
When you're gone?
Who's gonna love me when you're gone?
Who's gonna love me?

Note: I don't know the etymology of the word "kolorum". I searched online and it seems to be a pinoy slang. In case you have any idea, please do let me know.

B.Y.O.B. by System of A Down

System of A Down already had made a name with previous releases, especially the critically acclaimed Toxicity. With a strong following... it's time for political activism.

The song features one of the heaviest riffs I've heard in quite a while... add to that politically motivated-lyrics, SOAD's fast-paced style metal and you have quite of a song. The song comes from SOAD's 4th album Mesmerize which is said to be a 1st of two parts. The second album which came 6 months after was entitled Hypnotize.

In this song B.Y.O.B stands for Bring Your Own Bombs, although there are other popular meanings such as Bring Your Own Booze, Bring Your Own Beer, Believe Your Own Bullshit. You can even try to make your own.

You!

Why do they always send the poor!

Barbarisms by Barbaras With pointed heels
Victorious victories kneel
For brand new spankin' deals

Lalalalalalala oooh!

Marching forward hypocritic and Hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Kneeling roses disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing Our intentions

Hangers sitting dripped in oil Crying freedom
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Blast off
It's party time
And we don't live in a fascist nation

Blast off
It's party time
And where the fuckk are you?

Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?

Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Kneeling roses disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing Our intentions

Hangers sitting dripped in oil Crying freedom
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?

Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?

Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

They always send the poor
They always send the poor

Everything by Fefe Dobson

I came across this song while channel surfing before going to school back into college. The song had a great feel to it and i liked it the first time i heard it. I immediately searched for the song online and did some research on how sang it as i was not able to catch the credits in the music video.

The artist was Fefe Dobson, online articles say that she's someone's answer for Avril Lavigne, who is a fellow Canadian I immediately downloaded a copy of the song and soon enough found myself downloading the whole album (I got a original copy now).

I just found out that the video version has a better edit than the album version. I guess this one's a love song, something about you have to be deserving of someone's love or at least ready for it :)

Ayo ladadayo
Ayo ladadayo ladeeda

Sometimes I give in to sadness
Sometimes I don't
Doo doo doo doo

At times I'm part of the madness
Sometimes I won't
Give in to you

You see in a way
I have been drifting down a river
To nowhere
And you've given me nothing

But if you're ready to be my everything
If you're ready to see it through this time
And if you're ready for love then
This I will bring
But I'm not gonna wait for you forever this time

Ladeeda ayo
ladadayo ladeeda

At times I feel myself smiling
At times I'm not
Doo doo doo doo

Yeah yay
What's with the guilt that you styling baby
Talk don't look good on you
You see in a way
I have been looking for a reason to go there
And you're leading me nowhere

And if you're ready to be my everything
If you're ready to see it through this time
And if you're ready for love then
This I will bring
But I'm not gonna wait for you forever this time

Ladeeda ayo
ladadayo ladeeda

Are you waiting for a special occasion
To give me your heart
Cause I need a little confirmation
To make a real start

Don't wait till it's too late
Are you ready to show me?
Are you ready to love me?

You see in a way
I have been drifting down a river
To nowhere
And you're giving me nothing

And if you're ready to be my everything
If you're ready to see it through this time
And if you're ready for love then
This I will bring
But I'm not gonna wait for you forever this time

ladayo ladadayo ladeeda

I Love You Came Too Late by Joey McIntyre

The video for this song features a good-looking girl. She was blonde and had short hair. But that's not the only reason why I like this song. Again... it's one of those songs that exemplified what I felt towards a special someone.

Joey McIntyre came out of retirement around 1999, along with fellow NKOTB alum Jordan Knight, at about the time Boy Bands rule the world (and right before U2 took it all away back with "All That You Can Leave Behind"). He even won an award from his hometown Boston for his efforts with his comeback album.

I bought a copy of this album from eBay and met the seller somewhere at Tutuban Mall in Divisoria (1st time I went there) :)

Baby listen to me
If I have the chance
Id say those words
Come on.....oooh....

The bluest of blue
That's what her eyes are
That's what I am today

And if I had it all to do
All over again
I wouldn't have waited so long
To say...

I can't live with out you
I don't want know body else
Baby, listen very closely
I love you.......

I couldn't lie
She couldn't wait
I love you came too late
Id give my life
For yesterday
I love you came too late

I should have seen the signs
And payed more attention
But I pushed your love away

So if you find someone
To give you what you needed (somebody else)
Somebody else not afraid to say...

I can't live with out you
I don't want know body else
Baby, listen very closely
I love you.......

I couldn't lie
She couldn't wait
I love you came too late
Id give my life
For yesterday
I love you came too late

I can't live without you
Don't wan't nobody else
My heart is in my hand
I took a good look at myself
If I had another chance
I'd shout it out to the world
I love you!

I couldn't lie
She couldn't wait
I love you came too late
Id give my life
For yesterday
I love you came too late

Another Perfect Day by America Hi-Fi

I think my day just went from regular to bad and since this was on my song list to write about I guess its a good idea to write about it now.

America Hi-Fi came into my consciousness with the "Flavor of the Weak" which was somehow pasted all over MTV and the rival local music channel MYX. I bought the album on discount and enjoyed the power-pop flavored songs. "Another Perfect Day" was one of the mellow ones on the album. Everyday was a bad day during college especially when some girl's name pops into my head... once that happens day goes from regular to bad, bad to worse.

As the song goes... "I don't know to let it slide". Honestly I might still not know how after all these years.

I'm holding on waiting for your call
It's simple but I can't explain this
I'm sinking down I feel like I could die
I'm falling off I don't know why

I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day
I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day

so Imight try to leave it all behind
I know tommorow's not so bright now
I'll say goodbye cause nothing good can last
(you wear and figured no where fast)
and today I don't know how too keep it all inside
but I guess I'll let it slide

I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day
I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day

Today I don't know why
I thought that it was real
But I guess it's no big deal

I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day
I still believe it when you say
It's another perfect day
Another perfect day

I don't know how
I don't know how
To let it slide

To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High) by Ryan Adams

This was one of those songs wherein upon 1st listen I instantly liked it. I don't know any of Ryan Adams' song before I listened to "To Be Young" but after this I can consider myself a fan.

The song has folky elements, especially on the blues inspired guitar. There I'm not sure what's folky or bluesy, I'm no friggin' music expert ! There's just a lot of things happening... the slide guitar, the tambourine, the ohh-so-laid back delivery of the lyrics. The song actually sounds old that I mistook it for a cover.

Young boy you done me bad I went and did ya wrong
Young boy you done me bad I went and did ya wrong
Then I got high Lord I got high and I got a bone to pick with you

And I'm sure you know its true

Oh one day when you're looking back
You were young and man you were sad
When you're young you get sad
When your young you get sad then you get high

Oh man
Young gal you done me bad and I went and did ya wrong
Young gal you done me bad so I went and did ya wrong
Then I got high
Lord I got high

Now you got a bone to pick with me but I wish you'd let me be
Oh one day when you're looking back
You were young and man you were sad
When you're young you get sad
When your young you get sad then you get high

You get high
Oh the days the rain would fall your way
Oh the days the rain would fall your way
Then you be high cause you got sad
Cause you got sad

Oh man!!!

Fire Escape by Fastball

Fastball was one of those bands that i got into because i saw them on MTV. Being on MTV is not such a bad thing, even if you're the kind of artist who should be credible and wouldn't want to be tagged as a "sellout".

This is my favorite song of their debut album, All the Pain Money Can Buy. I honestly don't know what the song is about and what's the inspiration behind it but I like the line "I can be myself" because there are times i can't do that and those are the times I really HATE.

I also remember pitching this song as the Intro to one of the video presentations we did during 4th Year HS, but most of my classmates weren't familiar with the song or the band so my proposal was thrown out even before it had the chance to be hot.

Well I don't wanna be president
Superman or Clark Kent
I don't wanna walk round in their shoes

Cause I don't know who's side I'm on
I don't know my right from wrong
I don't know where Im going to
I don't know about you

Ill be the rain falling on your fire escape
And I may not be the man you want me to
I can be myself, how bout you?

I don't wanna make you mad
I don't wanna meet your dad
I don't wanna be your dream come true

cause I don't know just what Ive found
I don't know my sky from ground
I don't know where Im going to
I don't know about you

Ill be the rain falling on your fire escape
And I may not be the man you want me to
I can be myself, how bout you?

I can be myself, how bout you?
I can be myself
How bout you?

My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama by G3 (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson)

A Frank Zappa-original, G3's version of this song is nothing short of special. In other words it's just fuckin' A! The lyrics is very rockstar-ish and something that poses as a warranted warning to parents who don't know what they're messing with sometimes.

Featuring 3 different flavored guitar solos delivered by Vai, Johnson and Satriani (in that specific order), I think Zappa would have agreed that this initial version of the G3 Trio helped him drive his point!

Kudos to Stu Hamm for manning the bass!

You know, your mama and your daddy
Saying I'm no good to you
They call me dirty from the alley
Till I don't know what to do

I get so tired of sneakin' around
Just to get to your back door
I crawled past the garbage and
Your mama jumped out, screamin'
"Don't come back no more"

I can't take it
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to burn your dad
I get real mean when it makes me mad

Later I tried to call you
Your mama told me you weren't there
She told me don't bother to call again
Unless I cut off all my hair

I get so tired of sneakin' around
Just to get to your back door
I crawled past the garbage and
Your mama jumped out, screamin'
"Don't come back no more"

Later I tried to call you
Your mama told me you weren't there
She told me don't bother to call again
Unless I cut off all my hair

I get so tired of sneakin' around
Just to get to your back door
I crawled past the garbage and
Your mama jumped out, screamin'
"Don't come back no more"

My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to burn your dad
I get real mean when it makes me mad

Just My Imagination by The Temptations

I can't exactly remember when I first encountered this song... but the 1st time I professed love for it was when I mentioned it as a recent favorite to former officemate Lyris. She was also the one that mentioned to me that the song was covered by Gwyneth Paltrow and Babyface. Featuring a killer bass line and velvet soft vocals that would make it instantly memorable, the song comes back from the day when music was simple and sweet.

Add to the count of the unrequited love -love songs. I got a good collection.

Each day through my window I watch her as she passes by.
I say to myself, "You're such a lucky guy."
To have a girl like her
is truly a dream come true.
Out of all of the fellas in the world
she belongs to you...

But it was just my imagination
running away with me.
It was just my imagination
running away with me...

Ooh-hoo-hoo-hooh
Soon we'll be married..
and raise a family.
In a cozy, little home out in the country
with two children, maybe three.
I tell you, I can visualize it all.
This couldn't be a dream for too real it all seems.

But it was just my imagination -- once again --
running away with me.
I tell you it was just my imagination
running away with me...

Every night, on my knees I pray,
"Dear Lord, hear my plea...
don't ever let another take her love from me
or I will surely die.."
Ooh, her love is heavenly;
when her arms enfold me,
I hear a tender rhapsody...
but in reality, she doesn't even know me

Just my imagination -- once again --
running away with me.
Tell you it was just my imagination
running away with me.
I never met her, but I can't forget her.
Just my imagination..
-- ooh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah --
running away with me

25 Minutes by Michael Learns to Rock

Through my older brother's influence by the time when I was in grade 4 (1993) I was already listening to music made by Guns N' Roses, Metallica and Nirvana. When I was in Grade 6 the music has extended to OPM with musical acts such as the Eraserheads, True Faith and Rivermaya.

In our Writing class (Handwriting is more appropriate) there's a part wherein you can tear off the pages off the book for you to use it as a slum book (yes... you and I signed alot of those during our elementary years). One famous girl in the class, Marie, wrote "Michael Learns to Rock" as her favorite band. Marie's the type of girl that most wanted to be a part of. She was smart, witty, talkative, had short hair and was the type who could hurt you if she wanted to. Back to the topic, I asked myself... who the fuck is Michael Learns to Rock...I've never heard of this band before. Hell! I'm familiar with Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul, Sheryl Crow, Mr.Big, Skid Row, Poison... but Michael Learns to Rock?!?! Little did i know that there's are other Michaels in the music business other than the ONE named Michael Jackson.

How come this song is special? We'll for one thing, I was a witness to how powerful a song can be. There was a day when we had a Recollection as graduating elementray students and one last activity was to be done in the School Auditorium (how i miss those wooden chairs!), 25 Minutes was pumping through the sound system and almost everyone was singing the song. That was one sight to remember... and it could have been one of Michael Learns to Rock's greatest moments of all time... around a hundred grade 6 students singing their songs! Kids can be suckers for a lame love song!

After some time I've finally made up my mind
she is the girl and I really want to make her mine
I'm searching everywhere to find her again
to tell her I love her
and I'm sorry 'bout the things I've done

I find her standing in front of the church
the only place in town where I didn't search
She looks so happy in her wedding dress
but she's crying while she's saying this

Boy I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
25 minutes too late
Though you traveled so far boy I'm sorry your are
25 minutes too late

Against the wind I'm going home again
wishing me back to the time when we were more than friends

But still I see her in front of the church
the only place in town where I didn't search
She looked so happy in her wedding dress
but she cried while she was saying this

Boy I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
25 minutes too late
Though you traveled so far boy I'm sorry your are
25 minutes too late

Out in the streets
places where hungry hearts have nothing to eat
inside my head
still I can hear the words she said

Boy I've missed your kisses all the time but this is
25 minutes too late
Though you traveled so far boy I'm sorry your are
25 minutes too late

I can still hear her say......

Regression by Dream Theater

Officially titled Act 1 - Scene One:Regression, the song is the 1st track of the highly ambitious "Metropolis Pt. 2:Scenes From A Memory" album. I won't claim that I'm very familiar with the story of this album and the 1st part of the Metropolis Series, but what i can say is that this song blew my mind and opened a many musical territories that I've never explored before.

I encountered the song when a friend of Augy, Francis (Kiko) brought a pirated copy of this album on our home during one of their drinking sessions. Although it's very entertaining to listen to their college exploits, I was really looking forward to taking a glimpse of what the album had to offer. Unfortunately I had to buy an original copy 1st, before any glimpsing is to be done, as the pirated copy was not in tiptop shape when i chanced by it. Never did I regret buying that album.

This song was a fitting introduction for me to the world of Progressive Rock and Concept Albums. Fuckin' A!

"Close your eyes and begin to relax. Take a deep breath, and let it out slowly.
Concentrate on your breathing. With each breath you become more relaxed.
Imagine a brilliant white light above you, focusing on this light as it flows through your body.
Allow yourself to drift off as you fall deeper and deeper into a more relaxed state of mind.
Now as I count backward from ten to one, you will feel more peaceful, and calm.
Ten.
Nine.
Eight.
Seven.
Six. You will enter a safe place where nothing can harm you.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two. If at any time you need to come back, all
you must do is open your eyes.
One."

Safe in the light that surrounds me
Free of the fear and the pain
My subconscious mind
Starts spinning through time
To rejoin the past once again

Nothing seems real
I'm starting to feel
Lost in the haze of a dream

And as I draw near
The scene becomes clear
Like watching my life on a screen

Hello Victoria so glad to see you
My friend.

Note:
1. Progressive rock, sometimes shortened to "prog rock" or "prog", is a form of rock music that evolved in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Progressive rock compositions are often more elaborate than the standard rock or popular verse-chorus based song structures, and the arrangements often incorporate elements drawn from classical, jazz and avant-garde music. Songs with lyrics are sometimes conceptual, abstract, or based in fantasy.
2. Concept album, in popular music, is an album which is "unified by a theme, which can be instrumental, compositional, narrative, or lyrical"
