Thinking About You by Radiohead

While everyone is probably digesting and absorbing Radiohead's latest album, The King of Limbs, I just rediscovered this song of theirs from Pablo Honey. I suddenly remembered it while watching the movie 127 Hours, because there was a line that mentioned the title/hook of this song.

Been thinking about you
Your record's a hit
Your eyes are on my wall
Your teeth are over there
But I'm still no one
And you're my star
What do you care?

Been thinking about you
And there's no rest
Should I still love you
Still see you in bed
But I'm playing with myself
What do you care?
When the other men are far far better

All the things you've got
All the things you need
Who bought you cigarettes
Who bribed the company to come and see you honey?

I've been thinking about you
So how can you sleep
These people aren't your friends
They're paid to kiss your feet
They don't know what I know
And why should you care
When I'm not there

Been thinking about you
And there's no rest
Should I still love you
Still see you in bed
But I'm playing with myself
What do you care?
When I'm not there.

All the things you've got
That you'll never need
All the things you've got
I've bled and I'd bleed to please you
... honey

Been thinking about you..

I'm Waiting for the Day by The Beach Boys

I've been trying to understand the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds to no avail. While eating my 2nd lunch earlier (damn a very "bitin" korean beef stew), I was able to take a listen at this song. I guess I was able to relate to it with my experiences from last year. Oh well. +1 for the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson I guess.

I came along when he broke your heart
That's when you needed someone
To help forget about him

I gave you love with a brand new start
That's what you needed the most
To set your broken heart free

I know you cried, and you felt blue
But when I could I gave strength to you
I'm waiting for the day when you can love again

I kissed your lips
And when your face looked sad
It made me think about him
And that you still loved him so

But you know that pretty soon
I made you feel glad
That you belonged to me
And love began to show

He hurt you then, but that's all gone
I guess I'm saying you're the only one
I'm waiting for the day when you can love again

He hurt you then, but that's all done
I guess I'm saying you're the only one
I'm waiting for the day when you can love again

You didn't think that I could sit around and let him work
You didn't think that I could sit around and let (watch) him take you
You didn't think that I could sit around and let him go
You didn't think that I could sit back and let you go
You didn't think . . .

Just Breathe by Pearl Jam

This song is one of my favorite new tracks from the last Pearl Jam album, Backspacer. This acoustic ditty is heartfelt and is the usual welcome reprieve from PJ's hard rocking songs. Well done guys.

Yes I understand that every life must end, aw huh...
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, aw huh...
I'm a lucky man to count on both hands
The ones I love...

Some folks just have one
Others they got none, aw huh...

Stay with me
Let's just breathe

Practiced are my sins
Never gonna let me win, aw huh...
Under everything, just another human being, aw huh...
Yea, I don't wanna hurt, there's so much in this world
To make me bleed

Stay with me
You're all I see

Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn't I'm a fool you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean

I wonder everyday
As I look upon your face, aw huh...
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take, aw huh...
Nothing you would take
Everything you gave

Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn't I'm a fool you see
No one knows this more than me
As I come clean

Nothing you would take
Everything you gave
Hold me 'till I die
Meet you on the other side

You Get What You Give by New Radicals

I saw the video for this song the summer of '98. I was in high school and I guess for the people of the same age as me, this is one of the songs that encapsulates that period. It was fun. It was not that reckless (not reckless for me I guess).

I just realized how great the bass lines on this are. After years and years of listening to it.

Wake up kids we got the dreamers disease
Age 14 they got you down on your knees

Souls polite, we're busy still saying please
Friendnemies, who, when you're down ain't your friend
Every night we smash their Mercedes-Benz
First we run; and then we laugh till we cry

But when the night is falling and you cannot find the light, light
You feel your dreams are dying

Hold tight

You've got the music in you

Don't let go
You've got the music in you

One dance left

This world is gonna pull through

Don't give up

You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give

I'm coming home baby
You're tops,
Give it to me now

Four a.m. we ran a miracle mile

We're flat broke but hey we do it in style

The bad rich
God's flying in for your trial

But when the night is falling
You cannot find a friend, friend

You feel your dream is breaking

Just bend
You've got the music in you

Don't let go
You've got the music in you

One dance left

This world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget

We only get what we give

This whole damn world can fall apart

It'll be ok, follow your heart

You're in harms way
I'm right behind

Now say you're mine
You've got the music in you

Don't let go
You've got the music in you

One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live
Can't forget
We only get what we give
Don't let go

I feel the music in you, you, you YOU!

Fly ....... high .......!
What's real ....... can't die .......!
You only get what you give

Health insurance rip off lying
FDA big bankers buying
Fake computer crashes dining
Cloning while they're multiplying
Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson
Courtney Love, and Marilyn Manson
You're all fakes run to your mansions
Come around, we'll kick your ass in!

Don't let go
One dance left
Don't give up
Can't forget

You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC

AC/DC made some really good songs based on the catchiest guitar riffs. I remember reading about the Back in Black album in guitar magazines, it being one of the best guitar albums of all time. I only came to realize it when I bought the album during 4th or 5th year college. It was a day that I got my grades from school and went to SM Manila after.

She was a fast machine
She kept her motor clean
She was the best damn woman that I ever seen
She had the sightless eyes
Tellin' me no lies
Knockin' me out with those American thighs
Takin' more than her share
Had me fighting for air
She told me to come but I was already there
'Cause the walls start shaking
The earth was quakin'
My mind was achin'
And we were makin' it and you -

Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me all night long

Workin' double time
On the seduction line
She was one of a kind, she's just mine all mine
Wanted no applause
Just another course
Made a meal out of me, and come back for more
Had to cool me down
To take another round
Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing
'Cause the walls were shaking
The earth was quakin'
My mind was achin'
And we were makin' it and you -

Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me all night long
Knocked me out and then you
Shook me all night long
Then you were shakin' and you
Shook me all night loooong
Yeah you shook me
Well, you took me

You really took me and you
Shook me all night long
Oaaaaaahhhhhh you shook me all night long
Yeah yeah you
Shook me all... night... long
Ya really took me and you
Shook me all night long

Yeah you shook me, yeah you shook me
All night loooong!

Ananas by James Taylor

I've recently been converted to a James Taylor. He's music is just smooth and relaxing, yet still full of emotions. This is most definitely my favorite track from the Hourglass album. He mentions that this is an attempt to write a bi-lingual song. I love how the bass drives this song as well and is very well complimented by backing vocals

Je t'aime encore
Means I love you still
C'est pour toujours
Means I always will

Tu me manquais trop
Means I missed you too much
Je fais ce qu'il faut
Means I'll do what I must

Me voici à ta fenêtre
Tous tes gens me voient ici
Here I am at your window darling
For all your people to see me

Ananas laisse moi une fois
Laisse moi te voir
Let me one more time, ananas
Ananas, I'm lopin' along hopin' you're home
Open up and let me on in

Maybe I rise and maybe I fall
Maybe you lie underneath it all
I ain't got nothin' but for what you see
Even my own heart don't belong to me

Got your river running in my blood
Got your fire burning in my heart
You got me falling like a shooting star
Just like some tragic work of art

Ananas laisse moi une fois
Laisse moi te voir
Let me one more time, ananas
Ananas, I'm lopin' along hopin' you're home
Open up and let me on in

Here I am at your window baby
For all your people to see
Howling like a dog on the moonlight
Won't you have pity on me

Ananas laisse moi une fois
Laisse moi te voir
Let me one more time, ananas
Ananas, I'm lopin' along hopin' you're home
Open up and let me on in

Spit on a Stranger by Nickel Creek

I was surprised that I haven't logged a Nickel Creek song before, especially This Side. However for this post I've selected Spit on a Stranger instead. It's actually one of my favorites from the album that's not as high profile as the title track, but that doesn't mean it's anything less than that. I just love how the instruments diverge in the song and the dynamics of the acoustic instruments especially the double bass.

In short it's a lovely song!

Note: I just found out that this is a cover of a Pavement song. Gaddamit!

However you feel
Whatever it takes
Whenever it's real
Whatever awaits me

Whatever you need
However so slight
Whenever it's real
Whenever it's right

I've been thinking long and hard about the things you said to me

Like a bitter stranger

Now I see the long and short the middle and what's in between

I could spit on a stranger (Pull me out)
You're a bitter stranger (Pull me out)

Whatever you feel

Whatever it takes

Whenever it's real

Whatever awaits me

Whatever you need

However so slight

Honey, I'm a prize and you're a catch and we're a perfect match

Like two bitter strangers
Now I see the long and short of it and I can make it last
I could spit on a stranger (Pull me out)
You're a bitter stranger (Pull me out)
I could spit on a stranger (Pull me out)

You're a bitter stranger (Pull me out)

I could spit on a stranger (Pull me out)

You're a bitter stranger (Pull me out)

I see the sunshine in your eyes

I'll try the things you never try
I'll be the one that leaves you high, high, high

Rocket Queen by Guns N' Roses

I thought I already wrote about this song years ago, but looking at the blog, it might be that I missed the opportunity to write this down. I'm currently reading Slash's biography and knowing the story about one of the greatest bands the world has seen is just a treat.

Rocket Queen is just a balls out song... it's no accident that they put this song as the last track of the album. It starts out raw and strong and it ends simple and sweet. Too sweet it actually made me cry. Try to listen to the details of the guitar and bass parts. It's just amazing really.

If I say I don't need anyone
I can say these things to you
'Cause
I can turn on any one
Just like I turned on you
I've got a tongue like a razor
A sweet switchblade knife
And I can do you favors
But then you'll do whatever I like

Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen
I might be a little young
But honey I ain't naive
Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen oh yeah
I might be too much
But honey you're a bit obscene

I've seen everything imaginable
Pass before these eyes
I've had everything that's tangible
Honey you'd be surprised
I'm a sexual innuendo
In this burned out paradise
If you turn me on to anything
You better turn me on tonight

Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen
I might be a little young
But honey I ain't naive
Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen oh yeah
I might be too much
But honey you're a bit obscene

I see you standing
Standing on your own
It's such a lonely place for you
For you to be
If you need a shoulder
Or if you need a friend
I'll be here standing
Until the bitter end
No one needs the sorrow
No one needs the pain
I hate to see you
Walking out there
Out in the rain
So don't chastise me
Or think I, I mean you harm
Of those that take you
Leave you strung out
Much too far
Baby-yeah

Don't ever leave me
Say you'll always be there
All I ever wanted
Was for you
To know that I care

Cheryl (Come and Take a Ride) by Waltham

If ever I'm lucky to go to the Boston area, this is the band that I would like to see. One who love's 80's inspired music would certainly appreciate such an opportunity.

Come and take a ride!

I knew this girl who couldn't read my face
I'm twenty-one and she thought I was twenty-eight
I'm freaking out, cuz I've been running for a while
Baby, you ain't the first
What can I say?

I know she's hurt from what that creep did outside
He broke her heart and took her feelings for a ride, yeah
I want Maria, but Maria don't care
Baby, you ain't the first
What can I say?

Come and take a ride
Be with someone else
Come and take a ride
Be with someone else

When we went out she asked me what I like to drink
I blew the answer cuz of you I couldn't think
I lingered on and drank Tequiza for a while
Baby, you ain't the first
What can I say?

Come and take a ride
Be with someone else
Come and take a ride
Be with someone else

You said Cupid had not shot anyone else
I guess my Cheryl was wrong

Come and take a ride
Be with someone else
Come and take a ride
Be with someone else

Barely Breathing by Duncan Sheik

I remember high school everytime I hear this song... pure late 90's. Great guitar work. Simple lyrics... and first and only song I know that used the word "saline". It's music video was even included in the Windows 95 CD that came with the first PC we had at home. Just a classic.

I know what you're doing
I see it all too clear
I only taste the saline
When I kiss away your tears

You really had me going
Wishing on a star
The black holes that surround you
Are heavier by far

I believed in your confusion
So completely torn
Must have been that yesterday
Was the day that I was born

There's not much to examine
There's nothing left to hide
You really can't be serious
If you have to ask me why
I say goodbye

'Cause I am barely breathing
And I can't find the air
Don't know who I'm kidding
Imagining you care

And I could stand here waiting
A fool for another day
I don't suppose it's worth the price
It's worth the price, the price
That I would pay, yeah yeah, yeah

Everyone keeps asking
What's it all about?
I used to be so certain
Now I can't figure out

What is this attraction?
I only feel the pain
There's nothing left to reason
And only you to blame
Will it ever change?

'Cause I am barely breathing
And I can't find the air
Don't know who I'm kidding
Imagining you care

And I could stand here waiting
A fool for another day
I don't suppose it's worth the price
It's worth the price, the price
That I would pay, yeah yeah, yeah
But I'm thinking it over anyway
I'm thinking it over anyway

I've come to find
I may never know
Your changing mind
Is it friend or foe?

I rise above or sink below
With every time
You come and go
Please don't come and go

'Cause I am barely breathing
And I can't find the air
Don't know who I'm kidding
Imagining you care

And I could stand here waiting
A fool for another day
But I don't suppose it's worth the price
It's worth the price, the price
That I would pay, yeah yeah, yeah
But I'm thinking it over anyway
I'm thinking it over anyway

Well, I know what you're doing
I see it all too clear
